Default Going topless

I love driving the car with the roof off, but am concerned about leaving it that way in a parking lot where I can't keep an eye on it.

Comments?

If you can keep an eye on it, roll the windows up as that makes it much harder for someone to reach inside.

If you can't watch it, put the top on

Interesting you mention this....

My wife and I went to Houlihan's about a month and a half ago (when the weather first broke). We were excited to take the top off! I parked in the corner, away from everyone.

We actually sat outside, but so many people came to do the same thing, I lost sight of the Stingray. When we got back to the car to leave, my wife noticed that there were footprints on the passenger seat of the car and the inside of the passenger door.

We won't do THAT again.

Man! How obnoxious. I will learn from your mistake we will never leave our car with the top off if we can't keep an eye on her.

It all depends on where you leave it.

If you park it with the top down, out of the general flow of people (say behind the restaurant in the back parking lot), it stands a much higher chance of being messed with. If you leave it out where there are a lot of people coming and going, or sitting out at a sidewalk cafe situation, even if you can't watch it, just having all the people around; it will keep those who want to mess with it from doing so.

Obviously, don't leave anything tempting visible, just waiting to be snatched off the seat or dash.

I'm surprised that didn't set the alarm off.

Intrusion (interior motion sensor) alarm is disabled with the top off/down.

Holy crap! Wow. Some one was looking to get their A** kicked.

To the OP, I do go places and just roll the windows up but never leave it open for an extended period of time, because I can't relax. Usually to just run in a store, but never a mall, or for a movie etc.

Since I keep a "380" behind the nav screen the top stays on when I'm not in the car.

Glen_e posted in in a different thread how to use a plastic wall anchor to keep the intrusion sensor active. I will eventually use a wooden dowel or similar to do this. Great idea on Glen's part though (as usual).

Yes, he did.

I've been fooling around to accomplish this on the vert, but have not been able to make it work. The driver side has a hole that is round, but no red spot visible as in his posts. The pax side is oval, but I have not had any more luck getting it to work on that side.

If anyone who has made it work for a vert would post exactly how they did this, that would be great!

With my Convertible it is so easy to put the top up I just do that, but if I am at Starbucks or Panera with the wife grabbing coffee and it is where I can see it I will leave the top down.

Luckily, all I see is a lot of curious people looking it over and I must look like a Vette owner because people will often ask me if it is my car.

I think the Hot Looking Wife tips me off

No I am not Bald (yet) with Gold chains and a hairy chest, JK

One of the nice things about living in Japan is that there is absolutely no risk to personal belongings. I could leave the top off for days and nothing would happen (except it would get wet in the frequent rain). I have never tried it, but I am convinced that I could leave a $100 bill on the seat with the roof off the car in a crowded parking lot, and it would still be there hours later.

The only place I leave the roof off my car when I am not watching it, is in my garage; and if I have an unwelcomed guest there, I likely have bigger issues than someone sitting in my C7.

The one place I've always felt comfortable leaving tops off or down, and even car unlocked was at the Museum during a Vette Event.
At the last Bash, I had detailed my car over by the PDI department. I left a bag of detailing supplies out and went into the Museum. I thought about it, but didn't worry because everyone there respects your stuff. Later that day, my detailing bag was gone. It was not turned in at the Lost and Found. Some of the workers remembered a truck pulling up by it before it disappeared.
Geez, now I even roll up my windows and lock the car at the Museum when I'm not around. What is the world coming to?
