True, but it does strap to the trunk lid before you close it and also has a strap that normally would attach to the wiper but could be attached to something under the hood. Opening the rear hatch is part of the installation and removal process. Fact remains that if somebody wants to steal it, there isn't much to prevent that. I use it more as a deterrent and primarily to keep the heat inside the car to a minimum while protecting the interior from the sun, dust, wondering eyes as well as people with sticky fingers.

This is my solution. I use it more to keep the heat out and protect the interior from the sun but it also helps keep eyes and hands out. It's made of UV protectant material that does a great job of keeping the inside of the car cool on really hot days too. It's cheap ($79) and it takes a minute or two to put on. It's made my California Pop Top.
Well, I suppose you could, but it would look really stupid and not accomplish anything but announce to the world that you are a d'bag!
