Cheap insurance it is and I agree about changing the break in oil. It's the piece of mind that goes with it that has a higher value.

That's how I have always done my C5s and when I get a C7, I'll follow the same practice.

Not offended at all, just busting your chops a bit in good fun. I certainly understand and appreciate your position, the balance is hard to do but it's nice you're at least trying.

I would go halfway, at 50% oil life. I don't believe you need to do it as early as 1000 miles, however I also don't believe it's a good idea to take it right to 0% on the monitor, because that 0% oil life value is based on a fully broken in engine that doesn't have the higher level of wear particles like you are going to get on a new engine. I highly doubt it's done this way yet, but GM should really recalibrate the oil life monitor so that it counts down to zero much quicker when the car has under 10,000 miles on it.

I changed mine at 3250 after a long trip from KC to Seattle the southern route so how about a happy medium between 1 k and 6 k !!! It was a great trip to do the proper break in steps !!! Wayne

Either change it early or change it at the scheduled/recommended interval. Anything else makes no sense. The particulate matter accumulates early in the engine lifecycle - once you're at 1000 miles presumably the parts that are going to break in will have done so and particulate matter in the oil will be at its highest level. Any more and you are just allowing that matter to circulate through the engine.

Thanks for the tips...Will change at 1,000 miles.

Waste of money....Oil filter will catch solid particles and any thing too small for filter to catch isnt of any meaningful significance...

Thanks Doc a balance act to say the least. I would like to see an electric engine that sounded like a V8 though.

Since I get 2 free oils changes a yr I did my first at 2500 miles. But I'm old school too and I would have done it even if I had to pay for it.

It's your car and I would do what makes you feel comfortable. I personally change the oil within the first 500-750 miles.

Changed mine at 1200. If you bought a new C7 why are you worried about the cost of an oil change?
