Really? I think the quality is quite terrible honestly.. Looks like a 4 megapixel camera to me..
Looks like 4 megapixel? Obviously you have no idea what 4 megapixel is. If it were 4mp, the quality would be so good you could zoom in on an ant and see it's legs on the rearview image. 4 megapixel is 2240 x 1680 which is unheard of for a backup cam. It also higher resolution than all consumer HD TV's short of Ultra 4K..
The camera is likely 480 or 720p resolution at best which isn't horrible actually and typical of most back up cams.

I'm almost embarrassed to write this... but I thought my camera was going bad... but then the next time I washed the car I accidently washed its lense and it was back to its good ol' self. I have no idea why had missed washing that area, normally I'm nut about that kind of detaii... but frankly I didn't even think about the camera being up there,
Its the same quality as my other cars, its a backup camera not a HDTV.
I just wish it was mounted where you could see the edges of the bumper, I back out of the garage at an angle to a retaining wall and with the coupe its really hard to tell where the edge of the bumper/fascia is, side mirror doesnt really help much either. But it is no doubt better than no camera at all, great for backing into spaces.
Mayhaps my analogy didnt get understood the way I intended.. Sorry. I said it that way as to try to convey that nowadays for a digital compact camera that you buy at the store they are typically 12-15MP, and going to one of these stores and asking to buy a 4MP would end up with them probably laughing at you. 4MP cameras are like 5-10 years ago at this point. It was my comparison to that level of quality for the backup camera in this day in age. I have seen other cars backup cameras that put this one to shame and then some. Its probably on my top 10 of "c'mon you guys coulda did better than that" list. Plus I also goofed and didnt compare apples to apples as I forget that still image and video are not the same quality on any single camera. Usually video is much lower res than photo. All things considered, I am still happy to have gotten one with the car

It is at least as good as my Hyundai Genesis with the technology package, which by the way, had to be replaced due to corrosion from our salty NY roads.
One of the things I hate the most is backing out of a space when flanked by two pickup trucks; a common occurrence here in TX. (I know, park in the back 40). Does the backup camera help any with determining if the path is clear to the sides?

not really, field of view not that wide. would need proximity radar sensing device as is found on new Caddy's for that.
While at it, it could use blind spot monitoring and reactive cruise control also. This should be standard on all cars in this price category.

Not really, more of a wiz thing. If you want to back up close to an object you will see how close you are, other than that I don't think to much of it.
I honestly don't know why some are complaining about the cam quality. I think it's pretty good for a backup camera. I like how bright it is when outside light is low, which is not always the case with backup cams. It's at least as good as the cam in my wife's '13 Cad SRX or my '13 BMW550.
