Took an object (rock?) into the windshield at 65 mph on the highway. Just found out no one in San Diego has this windshield in stock and has to be ordered. Cost is over $1100 due to the HUD and fog sensors on the glass. My cost is $500 for my deductible. Vehicle will be sidelined awhile I guess until the windshield arrives.

Thats a big hit but I say always better in the windshield vs. paint. Paint repair is always detectable and usually goes on car fax. Windshield repair is usually undetectable and wont effect carfax.

There have been a few postings about glass breaking. I wonder if it's a defect or if they're using a thinner glass for weight savings? I've only had one instance where a rock or debris had caused damage to a Vette's windshield. Other times, no damage.
Sorry to hear about that. Did you contact Safelite? They are about as reputable as they come and they are also who most dealers use. If they don't have the glass at a local warehouse, they should be able to get it in short order. They only use OEM glass on these cars so you don't need to worry.
Man...that sucks. Sorry to see it. That's always a big fear of mine when I come up on a truck on the highway, although I guess a car can throw something up too.
not true about costs most insurance companies have to provide 1-2 a year by law that do not apply to your deductible or impact your rates...that is why they hang out at car washes and malls I urge you to check this out with state laws and your insurance compNY

A good paint repair is always! Undetectable! Then on a car fax
when the insurance pays!

I used them on a previous car and they were great. Worked well with the insurance company and there was no cost to me.
I agree about using safelite. Plus these guys install windshields for a living versus a dealer or body shop putting in glass. I'd trust safelite to do my windshield over anyone. They are pretty darn quick too. My insurance company replaces the windshield 2x per year at no cost to me and no deductible. Feel your pain, sucks to be out for awhile. Good luck!
Mine got hit last week during a cross country trip. Rock came up from a truck going the other way and the starburst grew before I could get to the nearest Safelite center. Safelite is ordering mine and I have $100 deductible.
Got hit last Sat'y on way home (1,000 miles) from 5-day NCRS Judging Nationals in Kansas City. Got a Missouri souvenir in form of a nasty golf-ball size rock, hit low on driver's side. Strangely, the 5/8 inch impact mark is somewhat "obscured" by my HUD script. The hit has not penetrated through the glass, but sure is crappy-looking.
I caught a rock in my windshield coming out of Memphis the day after I picked up my Vette at the NCM.
Some dipwad truck driver thought he needed to get in the left lane right in front of me. A rock flew up and hit the windshield in the lower right corner.
I had my wife get online and find a Safelite repair shop in Little Rock. They filled in the chip in no time. You have to really look hard to find it. I didn't want the chip to turn into a crack.
Mine got broke last month. Safelite said the first replacement came in damaged and had to order another. Going to get it replaced next Tues.
Have to either leave the car or wait for it at the shop. Will not do the job at my home. Must be more to it than a quick out with old and in with the new!!
I am driving for 50 years and never broke a windshield until 3 years ago. Broke 3 windshields in 3 years, they must be making them thinner to save weight and money. I used Safelite which came to my home and changed them in 2 hours. Excellent work.
This is my 2014 Lincoln
Unfortunately no such law in CA for free windshields. State Farm will waive deductible if a repair but not for a replacement. Glass arrived today and will be installed Saturday. Pay the $500 deductible and put it behind me.
