Just looking at that again, it still amazes me how many personalities these cars have at the flick of a switch. And the personality changes are quite noticeable!

I have the A6 Z51 w/mag ride shocks and it still amazes me how smart the tranny is when you start playing with the throttle and brakes in the mountains. Shifting is pretty benign and normal until your hammer the throttle then it 'understands' you want to play and keeps it in the upper RPM band. And when it's there and you touch the brakes it downshifts at much higher RPM's for you w/o using the paddles. Geez this car is fun to drive.

I take it from the charts that if you have an automatic there is no way to stop the 8-> 4 cylinder eco mode from occurring. This concerns me a bit for break in, my car is just coming in next week and I kinda thought it would make sense to break it in using all 8 cylinders, all the time. I had hoped to be able to turn it off during the break in.

Just put the trans in Manual mode and you will have 8 cylinders at all times.

Thanks, seems a bit of a paradox, buy an automatic and end up having to shift it using the manual mode. Too bad they wouldn't have allowed us to just switch off the cylinder deactivation. I may do just that on the highway to ensure it runs in V8 mode during the first 500 miles or so. I probably will change the oil myself around 500 miles as well, always makes me feel better when I buy a new vehicle.
