Automatic transmission question
Just have some basic questions regarding the AT in C7:
- Does it have 8 forward 1 rear gears?
- I know it uses torque converter, does that mean its like other AT cars where if you were to stop, you have to always keep your foot on the brake pedal and while you are driving if you remove your foot of the gas the car does not slow down like a MT car would?
- Does it have a kickdown mode, i.e in manual or auto mode, can you go from 7th to 3rd for maximum acceleration?
- How long does the transmission fluid last?
Trying to see how it compares to DCT in these areas. I am most likely going to go for MT in this car as I think AT will/may feel too much like a regular AT that can be found in many cars.
Thanks.
You do have to keep your foot on the brake when stopped
It does indeed kick down, and depending on what mode you're driving in will determine how aggressive the tranny programming is. Run it in Track mode and it is a beast, at least for the A6, both up shifts and downshifts. If you run in Track mode it downshifts very well based on your driving inputs (gas/brake), and it blips the throttle going in both directions. You can leave it in full auto, temporarily place it in manual mode by tapping a paddle, or put it in full manual mode and control your shifts full time by paddle.
Modern tranny fluid lasts a very long time - have to check the manual to see what the service interval is but I'd guess at least 25k miles?
