a friend of mine with a new C7 with the Z51 package pointed this out to me as well... but he said that it is because the tire compound was so sticky, and that caused pebbles etc to adhere to the tire (temporarily)

I agree it's temporary although I am seeing small nicks in silver paint on z51 wheels possibly caused by soft rubber picking up very small stones. (Edit: 8500 miles on car)
I had my first chip from a stone the first day I had my car, with less than 100 miles on the car.
I plan to add something to deflect the stones I'm sure my new Micheline's will throw stones as good as the sticky z51 tires, because they have smaller groves to pick up small stones.
Just returned from a road trip from Denver to Monterey and back, and on a stretch of Hwy 50 in Nevada, the tires pulled the rocks out of the road surface like it had just been chip coated. Needless to say, I wished I had installed clear bra across the whole length of the door bottom below the beltline. Too late now.
Read my musing post for impressions of the whole trip.
We recently test drove a C7 and during the drive we could hear an
abnormal amount of stone / gravel noise.
When we got back to the dealer, we noticed stones embedded in
the tire surface, not just in the grooves.
When the stones are removed, a noticeable hole is visible?
We did not stay there long enough to see if that area recovered.
Never saw this on our C6.
Any comments or opinions on the new tires or rubber compound?
Thanks for your help!
Have a GREAT Holiday!
My Z51 picks up stones as you note but does spit them out! There are no holes remaining in the tires. Unfortunately it spits some out on the rocker panels! Installed GM Splash Guards, not much help with the front tires and rocker panel marks, even the GM plastic gets marked. Installed Carbon Fiber side skirts and the problem is gone. There is a gravel road that tee’s into the road I live on and some small stones pull over. Can hear them hitting the bottom of the CF side skirts but no harm, no marks!

you are right !!! Mine does the same thing and that's why I'm getting A/S non run flat tires as I did for my old C5 !!! Wayne
