Default C7 Priced as High as $282,000 in China

The new Corvette Stingray might be a steal for the money here in the U.S. when compared with other sports cars, but the price for the American icon goes up quite a bit if you call China home.

While GM hasn't said whether it will make the car available in China, C7s imported to the country are going for $250,000 and higher, according to a GT Spirit report.

Just remember half that price is Tax to China, next profit for the Chinese importer - GM gets a sale and someone pays a transport company for shipping. SO I don't think there will be a lot of return tax dollars.

GM would do well to sell em in China. Instant discount of about 200K.

Besides, they got better roads over there for em, unlike Long Island.

China taxes are designed as an incentive to build cars in China rather than import them. All the major companies have Joint Ventures there. I know....helped negotiate 2 joint ventures for a large electronics company.

that`s where i from
every one get ripped off
they charge tax by displacement instead of MPG(in China we use liter/100km)

4.0L+ + 143% tax
3.0-4.0L(included 4.0)+95% tax
2.5-3.0L(included 4.0)+66% tax
2.0-2.5L(included 2.5)+60% tax;
1.5-2.0L(included 2.0) +53% tax
and these doesn`t included dealer`profit majority dealerships monopolized the market
the result is :
camaro V6 $80,000 370z $100,000 C63 $170,000 porsche cayman $180,000 gt500 $250,000 Maserati GT $400,000 range rover SC5.0 $550,000 gallardo/huracan $720,000
hyper car price are insane, like bugatti $7 million the most expensive is koenigsegg one $15 million

I saw an account where they copied the US Interstate system and have exceeded ours in miles. But wait...that's not all, It's virtually new and improved with wider lanes.

They think long-term. They have been around a while too. Thousands of years. As long as you don't mess with their one party rule, you're good to go as a business man (or woman). Chinese tourist's (with lots of disposable cash) are all over South Korea, Singapore, Europe, and soon to be in places like Miami. I would have include Las Vegas but they got their own & improved LV, courtesy of US business ventures.

What I'm saying is our infrastructure is frozen in time circa 1960, and when it thaws out every winter, it turns to rust and potholes. Just take a ride on the Interstate on Long Island like I said.

The downside (besides Commie & freedom as we know it) is the air quality in places like Beijing. It totally sucks and tends to drift to other places. When I was in Seoul, South Korea I got the drift out of China.

Default more on China

Just read USAtoday...

The film industry had its worst summer in North America since 1997.

Chinese ticket sales for the 4th installment of the Transformer franchise actually exceeded those generated in the U.S.

If you can tap that market, you will prosper.

I wonder what the total sales # would be like if BG shipped C7's to China for under 82K MSRP.
