Default Your Future Corvette May Nag You to Stop Texting While Driving

It appears that future Corvettes could very well tell you to stop texting in the car.

Yup, a talking 'Vette that warns you of the danger of checking that cell phone in the cockpit.

Not that any of you would ever engage in that kind of activity when behind the wheel, but just in case you happen to get caught in some crazy fluke of a circumstance.

Read the rest on the Corvette Forum homepage.

If you are stupid enough to text while driving, you deserve more than nagging.

Talk about a split personality, the 2015's are supposed to have a 4G (with Hotspot) cell phone (called OnStar, on ATT net). So, are the going to lock out the "Hot Spot" unless the passenger seat air bag is on? (Briefcase on seat will take care of that, works great now.) What about Chevy AppShop? I am confused.

I think distracted driver detection technology will be standard in all cars in the not-too-distant future.

The other day I was following a girl in a little econobox on a 2 lane road. All of a sudden she started to drift left until she was 4 wheels in the other lane. She just barely corrected and got back in our lane before a car coming the other way would have had to avoid her. Then she drifted right until 2 wheels were off the road! I couldn't believe it and I was watching it... Anything to stop that kind of accident waiting to happen is OK by me.

Mine told me several times from the navigation to"Please drive straight" Once it was an off ramp with lots of construction and rerouting and other similar obstacles. It may have been telling me to continue same route, but it sounded like scolding with the timing of the message!

Just put us all on rails with auto programming. That'll take care of it.

I’m glad to see that other’s have the same attitude as I do. I feel the same way about cell/smart phone conversations.

I’d agree that on a quiet interstate, in good weather, a call could safely be placed but we all know the distracted drivers whose unnecessary calls endanger and not infrequently kill others. Don

Sugar (my c7) doesn't understand a freakin' thing I say!!!! I always text with voice recognition, for safety and ease, but it's impossible with the phone synced with the car.

I end up hollering at my car. "That is NOT what I said!!!!" I cannot even get the system to recognize "Call Kevin." Maybe my accent? LOL

So you make it easier to use all of the phone features that have been added to this car and then nag you because you're using it??

IMO, all of this phone connectivity, pairing, contacts, favorites, etc. should have never made it to production in this car and all of the other cars that have it. It just invites more distraction. Put the phone down and drive!

I am in favor of it, it seems that the youngsters cannot function for a few minutes without playing with their 'smart' phones. Yesterday I went for a bike ride and saw someone riding on the path with hands off the handle bars while checking messages on their phone!

Agreed. The article is very vague. How do sensors "detect when a driver is distracted"? What differentiates distracted by text message vs. all the other distractions that are inside a car?
