I doubt it. The way it was explained to me, strong gas smell and a puddle under the car were 2 of the symptoms that caused the owner to bring in the car.

I’m not impressed by the idea of 4 cars having cracks in the gas tank even if it is valid.

On the other hand, I do think your house burning down as would be the likely result if the car in the garage burned down is pretty damned serious, insurance or not. Don

Unsettling indeed. My 2004 developed a leak while in my garage and the car sits close to my gas water heater (open pilot flame). The fumes were very strong. The good news is that you will smell it right away. Mine was a cracked crossover pipe (the pipe that connects the 2 tanks).

Ok, have learned there was a mistranslation.

I spoke with the mechanic directly. He said the one he is working on is the 4th one he knows about, not the 4th one he's worked on.

The fuel tanks are injection molded plastic. A seam on the top starts to separate, and dumps about 1/2 gallon on the floor.

The VIN of the one he is working ends in E5111110

Default not saying it is, but...

Hope it's not the connector (bung) attached to the crossover pipe at the tank. Those are welded with a special glue and if the weld fails (cracks), you get fumes and spills. Just like on the late 03 and 04's with the re-design which carried over to C6.

PITA is right. More so for GM. These parts are outsourced. BG just assembles. GM did proper by doing a 10-year free service on it case by case basis.

Yea. Car was in the air, the bottom part of the left fuel tank was removed and set aside. (Didn't see the top).

LR tire, the LR wheelwell liner, and several other parts I didn't recognize were also off and set aside.

For what it's worth here is a link to a couple pictures from the tank of an 04 C5 that had a failed bung due to the use of incorrectly mixed adhesive used to weld the bung to the tank body. I believe this problem on the C5 only occurred on the drivers side tank:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/g/picture/1265064

The C5 problem was isolated to a range of VIN's built in late 2003 ( 04 model year C5's).

Wow . . . a 3-year old thread back from the dead.

Sorry about your problem, but it almost certainly is one of many very isolated, almost one-off, assembly-line problems, which are seen in all brands. It has not proven to be a trend or anything more than a freak event.

Hmm, agree, this sounds suspicious! Since I started reading posts when I got my September 2013 built C7, don't recall another post on the subject.

Reminds me of when I had something done on my wife's car some years ago at a Foreign car shop in town, no longer in business. Brought it home and found a pin hole leak in the power steering hose. Fluid was coming out in a fine stream in the center of the hose. Expensive repair, by them as I had no other shop to bring it! Always was suspicious they did it!

If it is a sender that is an issue, a poster said his dealer solved that with two containers of the GM fuel additive listed in the Owner's Manual. Charged him $100.

The problem with sulfur build-up on seniors is well known. Techron and the GM "stuff" (probably Techron with their name and 3 times the price as the SDS sheets are the same!) say they clean sulfur from senders.

This has nothing to do with Top Tier gas, etc. All crude oil contains sulfur. Some several percent. Some gets removed in refining but not all. Added the GM "stuff" in my 3 1/2 year old C7 every oil change per the Owner's Manual, as a precaution. Will use the cheaper Techron in the Grand Sport.

Default Special Coverage Adjustment 16009 Primary Tank Inlet Check Valve Fuel and Vapor Leaks

I got a letter a while back stating that I had 5 yr / 60,000 mi special coverage.

Special Coverage Adjustment
16009 Primary Tank Inlet Check Valve Fuel and Vapor Leaks

Details here:

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...eaks-1312.html

Of course, there can be other issues, but this is one is acknowledged by Chevy.

After seeing how the inlet nozzle attaches to the fuel tank, I don't think that the small amount of flexing caused by the filler nozzle would cause the tank to crack..

The fuel inlet attaches to a rubber hose, which then goes to the fuel tank.

Default We had tank replaced

My wife drives a 2014 Z51 convertible. There was a gas smell in the garage after she had been out with the car. No spots on the floor or anything, just the smell.

She was careful filling it up thinking she may have overfilled or spilled some gas getting the nozzle out of the fill pipe at the station. Still a gas smell in the garage.

She made an appointment at the dealership and they checked it out. Cracked gas tank. They kept the car for 2 days. Had to order the tank and take a lot of stuff off the car to replace it.

It was covered under warranty and didn't cost us anything except the inconvenience. There was approx. 45,000 miles on the car when this happened.

Default 2014 Fuel Tank Leak

My 2014 C7 Corvette after gas fill started to fill up my 2 story home with gas fumes. Lucky my house did not blow up when the electric garage door opener opened the garage door.

Took the car into the dealer for the extended warranty for fuel pump flange issue, they said it was covered.

After 2 weeks I called the dealer and they said the parts have just arrived and the car would be ready tomorrow.

Then I got a text message that the filler tube where it attaches to the tank was cracked and they needed a payment for $1500.00 for a new tank.

I went several rounds with them and got no where. I asked for the GM Corp phone number and they refused to supply me the number.

I found the number on the WEB and they so far have not step up to the plate to resolve this issue, So much for customer satisfaction.

Also I went to a non dealer Corvette Repair Shop and the owner said the fuel tank parts always fail, he showed me several fuel tank fail parts.

These 2 GM bulletins may be of help. Coverage for some fuel tank issues was for 10 yr. Depending when your 2014 was built you may still have coverage.
