I recently purchased a refurbished backup camera system on Ebay. An Audiox System with a 2 1/2" Monitor. I plan on mounting the camera under the car, as far back as I can get as it only projects down about 1 1/4". I plan on mounting the Monitor inside the cubby behind the GPS Screen, as there is room to spare.
QuestionThis unit needs a 12V source. Is it possible to tie into the light source to the running lights in the front? If so, where can I make a connection?

Good idea..........if you could see the curb's in front of you, it would be great. I am not wanting to tare the front end up by hitting a curb. My girl friend is getting tired of having to get out of the car and spot it for me. I was not wanting to install one of those curb alerts, if I can get a camera to show me whats up front.... Guess you don't have that problem?

Hmm. I like where this is going. Be sure to post up picks. I'm not sold on the curb alert thing.
I'm liking your idea. I'm thinking for 12v source, you might want to check out some of the radar mount threads to see where they got power....many are from fuse in rear. Also check the curb mount thread for where they ran their power. One question, I have, is if you mount the camera under your car and as far back as possible, how are you going to determine how far you are away from the curb in front of you. I'm sure it probably has a proximity sensor; those need to be mounted clearly where they can pick up the object. That's the reason most are in the license plate or embedded in the bumper. I would think if you could mount it "to the front" of the vehicle, it might work better.
If you want to spend bucks, there are several possible ways to use the navigation/radio display.. NavTool is one such approach. Not sure if they support the 2105 radio yet or not. There are other companies that also have ways of doing this.

Well, the camera has a 110 deg viewing angle and to get the most coverage on width, tha camera needs to be mounted as far back as possible. No prox sensor, When I mount the camear I will place an object that gives me the right clearance and then I will place a mark on the monitor screen....as long as I keep the curb/object away from the line, I should be good.
The camera I am using is wireless...so it cuts down the necessay wires to route. If I can tie into the running lights (which I use all the time), that would be a great switched power source as the camera system draws less than 400 ma......
I tried a front wireless camera on my C6 a few years ago but it was cheap and failed. Then I read about a neat trick to keep from hitting the front. Using the HUD ,imagine that the display is projected on a wall. Then try to determine where that wall extends down and is the front of the car. In other words the display is on a plane equal to the front of the car. This works for me on the C6, have not tried it yet on the C7. Try it and let me know if it works for you.

Sounds interesting....not sure I totally understand...I will try picturing the HUD as a relationship to the front end....not sure that will work, but i will try
