If driving, I'd make it a habit to not mess with any buttons.

Good point. The only buttons I like to mess with when driving belong to BMW and Prius drivers....

Fair enough, but grabbing your sunglasses etc out of the cubby is reasonable. It's not like you're belting out a text message. It's more like adjusting the air temperature in your car or turning the A/C on or off.

this was a simple question! guess a simple answer is not forthcoming. the buttons are close to each other, and the start button can be pushed by accident. no need for special glasses, physical exam, or doctor visit. just a safety question. thanks for the honest answers by others that did the same thing.

Someone just posted something similar, I recall since responded with my story, so I'll repeat it!
First he accidentally hit the start button and the car shut off! He found after panicking, that you just need to hit it again, no need to hit the brake, hold for 2 seconds and it starts!
Believe that is what you asked.
Now my old story: I was driving my 260Z and asked my passenger to get something out of the glove compartment, it was locked. So I shut off the engine and handed her the key. Although on a straight road, I tried to make a small steering correction. I panicked when I realized the steering wheel was locked! Quickly grabbed the key back and all was fine!
I can understand how it could happen especially when I see folks texting in a car! They obviously are not paying attention to the road!
