My wife has an extensive CD collection that she has been recording albums to her '13 Honda Accord that has a 16 GB internal hard drive from a single CD disc player. Easy uploads and is perfect for her. No messing around with IPods, etc or USB, Flash cards or whatever. She is tech illiterate! But a good transition technology for us that invested heavily into CDs. Watch this:
Trashed my cassettes and 8 tracks long ago. My son loaded the top 100 from every year from 1953 to 2005 to my IPod 64 GB. Use it in my C7 and need no CD slot. Newer stuff I use satillite
While I personally go the digital file route, you can always get a portable CD player and hook it up. Here's a thread that will have some helpful information for you. It of course has the normal C7 forum mocking that occurs when someone asks a simple question but also some solutions for you as well.
Any particular reason? Trying to save weight? It can't be because it is "old technology" because CD players are standard equipment or at least an option for all Chevrolet models EXCEPT Spark, Camaro and Corvette. Yes - a $15,000 Sonic can get a CD while the $60,000+ Corvette does not(???). GM continues to provide the option for Cadillac and Buick as well. CD/DVD players and changers are available and EXPECTED in high end systems of luxury performance brands such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Jaguar and Mercedes to name a few.
What I love about my CTS Coupe and what I will miss if I buy a Corvette is a versatile multimedia system. I have the 10 speaker Bose Centerpoint system like that available in the Stingray and listen to music through CD, hard disk drive and USB. The system plays DVDs and has capabilities through AUX inputs.
Perhaps a CD player can "return" as an option for the Corvette, similar to what Cadillac provides for the ATS? That CD player (for $275) mounts in the glove box.
Go to Best Buy and look around for the CD section...it's still there, it takes up about the same amount of isle space as toasters and waffle irons do. Use to be that CD's took up 1/2 the entire store !
Well kind of! I thought I needed an ipod, so bought one before I received the Vette. Don't bother. There is a slot, much smaller than a CD slot that holds an small memory chip. It's inside the console. I used the 32GB chip that was in my camera (put the 16GB chip that came with it back in) then put every CD I own on it! I use simple voice comands to call up a song or whole CD up! Use YouTube or a teenager to show you how, write down the simple sequence and repeat for each CD you own!
I do, however, like to listen to audio books. I can borrow them from the library without any charge.
Unfortunately, libraries are on a budget and all of their audio books are on CD. It will be quite a while before they can afford to invest in a different media. By that time today's technology will be outdated and they will have to invest in the next whiz bang fad if they want to stay current.
I think it is unfortunate that GM has decided to go high tech (for today) and eliminate the CD drive from the C7.
