You pay for flight to Kentucky, pay $990 for Museum Delivery, pay $995 for delivery, just to pick up your Vette directly at the factory?
& gets to pay sales tax in your home state also?
So came up with this scam? & why do we put up with it?
I understand the special significance of Museum delivery, but...
I'm somewhat OK for the $1000 delivery for Mercedes & BMW European delivery program, since they have to ship the car across the Atlantic, but at least they don't charge extra for Museum delivery to tour their factory.
Don't believe any other industry works this way!
Just my observation, all u Gov't Motors supporters flame away...
I didn't do a museum delivery, to expensive for what it is. After a few new corporate jet deliveries, where they wine and dine the purchaser (loads of free gifts), I would have been disappointed.
As far as the (non muweum) delivery charge, you can thank the teamsters union for that. I purchased a new car once, and had the chance to pick it up at the factory, thinking I would save the delivery charges....not so. I was told that it is built into the contract with GM & the teamsters. They have to get their cut you know!
No one forces you to take Museum Delivery so I have no issues with it. One of my friends is planning to come from California to pick up his Z06 and this is his second Museum Delivery. They really enjoy the experience. It also helps to pay for the pleasure of other people enjoying the Museum without purchasing a car.

Although I agree that it is a choice to pick museum delivery or not, I am with you that there should not be destination charge for it.
There are other options on the Corvette that I would rather get in lieu of the cost, but I understand those that want to do it and don't mind the cost. It is an enjoyable option to them.
Impressive rant. As someone posted earlier, just say "no" to the Museum Delivery. In fact, don't even buy a car. Any car. You will save money and be happier. And the highways will be a safer place with one less road-rager.
I would have loved the experience of the museum delivery scam if I could have made it work for me. Unfortunately, not in the cards. I envy the good folks who do enjoy the experience.
I did Museum delivery. It was fun. Was it worth a grand? Who knows. I don't measure fun by $$$$.
And, I drove the car on a long adventure home through snow and rain and a lot of southern sunshine. Took a lot of fun pictures too.
I will say that it was a lot better experience than picking up a car at a typical Chevy dealer.
You don't pay any Kentucky taxes. You pay them in the state of the dealer sold you the car and when you register the car in your state, those taxes are deducted (or something like that -- it's a bit complicated). So, you don't get a double hit unless you are stupid enough to live in California where they charge you taxes on new car sales even if you paid the tax somewhere else.

We pay for the options we want. Museum delivery, and the factory birthing of your corvette are options that you can order or not. Freedom of choice. GM is in the business of building cars for profit and as the adage states, "whatever the market will bear" is appropriate. Money greases the wheels. Do Ferrari, Porsche, et. al. offer add on options? Of course they do, capitalism at its finest. Pay to play.
As others stated and should have been very obvious to you before you started this thread, if you do not want to pay, than you have a choice, don't take the offer.
Perhaps you would rather order some cheese to go with your whine....
The problem is that the Museum is not a GM property so each business wants their cut and I'd imagine the coordination is a little more difficult as well. The GM destination charge is too high IMO.
The way I heard it, the delivery charge going to a Dealership across the street from the factory, or to the museum, or to Florida, or California, or anywhere are all the same. That makes the delivery contract very simple.
