Thats right. Because I live in Bowling Green and you want to live in Seattle or Miami I should subsidize your destination charge on my purchase?
As someone who lives in Seattle I thank you. What about Asian cars? they come in through the port of Tacoma. We pay the same as you. But since I buy American I thank those who pay more so I can pay less.
While I don't agree with the added fee plus the destination charge. It's not that big a deal, you're not forced to do it. IMO the destination fee should be waived.
Out of 37,288 cars manufactured for 2014 only 1,231 people chose NCM delivery.
Yes I agree with your thinking. I was planning on museum delivery; i did think the price was high, but that was not the obstacle. The issue with needing to buy refundable tickets etc just made it too pricey for me. I am opting to drive to the museum next year so i will still get to drive my car home, and driving both ways should be twice as nice. 1000 miles each way.
That'll make for a great road trip. Some folks don't like long drives, but I find them quite enjoyable. And after spending nearly 25 years flying all over Heaven's half acre for work, I can do without getting on an airplane if I don't have to do so.
Although I agree that it is a choice to pick museum delivery or not, I am with you that there should not be destination charge for it.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe is either museum delivery or dealer delivery, but you don't pay for both.
Also, do you have any idea what your baby will go thru if you don't take museum delivery? It will be loaded on a transporter, then unloaded at the rail head in Cleveland, where it will sit for a few days; Then loaded into a rail car carrier; then 3 weeks; and 3 different railroads (for west coast delivery). Then unloaded at rail terminal, and loaded again on to a car transporter. Loaded and un-loaded 3 times, by at least 4 different people. 3 weeks longer delivery time.
I ordered and paid for museum delivery mainly to avoid all of that. I wanted to marry a virgin. Unfortunately due to the "Stop Sale Order", and my travel arrangements, I had to cancel the museum delivery and have car diverted to dealer. Car was built on 9-10, and I am still waiting.
Toledo not Cleveland and it appears some go past Tolefo to the New Boston rail yard.
The $990 museum delivery is in addition to the $995 destination charge.

If that is true, someone owes me a refund. I had to cancel museum delivery because they couldn't stand by their scheduled delivery date. I ended up diverting car to dealer. I should get a full refund for the amount I paid in addition to the "delivery charge". I meant Toledo.

I paid the Michigan sales tax the selling dealers state. I paid a tiny amount of sales tax in Texas which would have been the same if I had bought it from a Texas dealer. The $995 charge by the museum helps pay to keep the museum open and all the things they do. It's well worth the experience.
We did the NCM and plant tour mid-way back from Dearborn MI en-route to FL with my brand new '12. Just to have lunch at the Cafe and look around for a bit to see what's new & stretch our leg. Very cost effective and the food was great.
You pay for flight to Kentucky, pay $990 for Museum Delivery, pay $995 for delivery, just to pick up your Vette directly at the factory?
& gets to pay sales tax in your home state also?
So came up with this scam? & why do we put up with it?
I understand the special significance of Museum delivery, but...
I'm somewhat OK for the $1000 delivery for Mercedes & BMW European delivery program, since they have to ship the car across the Atlantic, but at least they don't charge extra for Museum delivery to tour their factory.
Don't believe any other industry works this way!
Just my observation, all u Gov't Motors supporters flame away...
go buy a Ford, or a Porsche. You don't have to put up with that 'scam', not for one more minute....
As far as the (non muweum) delivery charge, you can thank the teamsters union for that. I purchased a new car once, and had the chance to pick it up at the factory, thinking I would save the delivery charges....not so. I was told that it is built into the contract with GM & the teamsters. They have to get their cut you know!
It's a little known fact that before unionization of labor shipping in the U.S. was free. Tycoon philanthropists such at the Vanderbilt Family built and operated the railroads as a free public service. This is why they lived so modestly. Then working men ruined it for everyone.
How can something be a scam people knowingly pay for and KNOW what they will be getting? A scam implies some dishonesty. fraud, cheating somewhere in the mix.
I bought my 08 from a guy (on this forum) who took NCM delivery and the pics he gave me of him and his wife beaming in Bowling Green were priceless and as a bonus I got all the laminated NCM stuff with the car. Not something I would find personal value in but I don't see it as a "scam".

Every car out there has a delivery charge tacked on to the window sticker. Nothing new there - been that way for years. The NCM delivery is an option that you can choose - so if the price bothers you, simply do not select it when ordering the car. You can always go visit the museum at a later date and do a plant tour at the same time.
Isn't the OP's "parent company" the one that brought us $600 toilet seats? Oh yeah, it was the leveling out of prices all across the board.... Or is that old news?
