Default Need help regarding 7th gear slipping

Has anyone had a problem with their manual transmission slipping out of seventh gear? Only 2500 miles and have had it in for service to repair. Dealer put a new shifter boot on the shifter. No help. The problem occurs at highway speeds usually on down grades. Very frustrating having to constantly reshift into 7th or drive in 6th and accept less than optimum performance. Would like to know if this is unique to my car. Taking it back in 10/28 for service. Any comments from members would be helpful.
My car is a 14 C7 Z51 2500 mi.

Never had a bit of problem with it slipping out of ANY gear (VIN 11822, Z51, 15K miles). My first thought is misaligned linkage but it could be deeper in the tranny.

By the way, I'm trying hard not to laugh at your dealer over the shift boot thing

Haven't seen any posts like that here. In other forums, it could be some worn internal parts, but yours is new. A shift boot is causing it to kick out of gear--that's an odd solution.

I have 6000 miles on mine, and no issues slipping out of any gear. Hope you get it fixed.

It must be a defect in the transmission.

Same here, no problem in any gear. May be in the trans where the detents are controlled.

With your current mileage the most likely thing needed is a linkage adjustment.

On my old transmissions in my older cars and Vettes, the rubber boot can put enough pressure on the shift lever to kick it out of gear.

I've never heard of it being a problem on newer cars though.

In my 4,000 miles of C-7 driving, I've used 7th gear two or three times. In my opinion, it's useless.

My old C6Z might have had longer throws, but I never missed a shift. Can't say that about this M7.

Like others stated, Id say it's a adjustment or something internal.

Useless? You must not drive on many flat highways...

lizizvette,

My apologies regarding your vehicle's transmission slipping, especially since it's back at the dealer for another diagnosis. Although I understand your displeasure, it's great that you've proactively reached out to your dealer again about this situation. Keep us in the loop and updated on your service visit. If necessary, I can contact the dealer's Customer Experience Managers if you have additional questions. We'll look forward to your updates .

I think it's something like this. Kinda like the classic Porsche 996 Turbo 2nd gear pop out issue. Exact same symptoms. Of course in that case once it starts popping out it's too late for simple fixes.
