Ok...I'm hoping someone smarter then me can explain this....what is the purpose of the key inside of the FOB? I'm not aware of any locks on the C7 that can use this key. Is the key and it's specific cutting pattern what the FOB uses to verify the correct car?

Check your owners manual. You can use the metal key to access the trunk.

If you have a button on your fob that blows the horn to find your car, maybe they should put a button in the car that makes the fob beep so you can find your fob!
Food for thought.
Until they come around I may glue one of these tiles to the back of the fob.
Before you pay the dealer big $$ for programming your 2nd key, see if you can find a local locksmith who deals in cars. In many cases, the local dealers tend to use them when they get auction cars in the lot, etc. I was able to get a 2 extra keys and remote fob sourced and programmed by a Willowbrook Locksmith for $70, with a fixed $30 programming fee.
I just had to buy a new FOB. Lost the spare. The price at the dealer was $160 for the transmitter. $55 for the key itself. And $40 to program it. To all others. DON'T LOOSE THE RKE!
