Well, I did it. Wow.... the cover on the back of the mirror is on VERY tightly, and the wire/connections (black and purple) are VERY small and TIGHT! Even after filing down the cord connectors, they just barely work. I may have to solder pins on the end of the wire. Thanks for your post, as I might have given up without knowing someone had been successful.

Melting Slicks
Followed instructions and RD powered up but I blew the fuse, I replaced the fuse and all is working, I believe I blew the fuse while enlarging the pin hole with a jewelers screwdriver, my issue and question to all...
are you manually powering up/shutting down the RD ?, in my C6 it shut down as soon as I turned off the ignition, in the C7 not so.
Have I done something wrong ?

Following these instructions, I was able to power tap the mirror and install the mount with no issues. It took me about 20 minutes including removing the mount (after I installed it prior to putting the first trim piece back on, doh) and reinstalling.
Thanks for the write up and clear pictures.

I just completed this install and I'd just remark:
- There appears to be two black wires but when you have a good light on them, you can see that one is black, one is gray. Use a light and choose the black.
- I dremeled a small half circle on the top back of the mirror wire casing. This worked good and is out of view.

Excellent writeup, thank you.
I just installed it in my 2015 3lt vert in about 20 minutes. I didn't remove the PDR cover or separate the halves of the wiring harness. As others have said, getting the tap in the purple wire is a little tight, and the cover was snug, but all in all it was pretty easy.

It's hard to tell the wire colors. There is so little slack in the wire harness. Looks like purple is on the end. then two green and the black. All in the same row. Harness coming from the top.
Can someone please confirm.
The OP picture is a bit blurry on this step. (great write up that has gotten me to this step. I have a 2015 2lt stingray coupe no PDR, if that makes any difference. Before I start to connect the pins, what to make sure I have the right wires.

This thread has really helped me with the install. I wanted to share some different things I did. First I removed the mirror. Stick a screwdriver thru the holes on the mirror shaft and turn CCW the mirror will drop straight down. There is a picture of a screwdriver by the holes.
Next I used the Valentine Direct-Wire Power Adapter Item 20305. I inserted it on the left side, about 8 inches from the mirror opening. There is actually a hole there.
I also purchased a Coiled Power Cord Item 20302 which I plugged into the adapter. The picture shows the mirror removed and the power and coiled cables.
One tip when reinstalling the mirror, make sure the coil cord is tucked inside the mirror flanges else when you twist the mirror the cord will be on the outside of the mirror flange.

I'm debating whether to tap the mirror wiring or go the route you did. How did you hide the cable around the windshield?

I taped into the mirror wiring, Red wire to Purple (pin2) and Black to Black (pin 5). I put a grooved notch in the plastic cover (back of the mirror) for the coil cord. The coil cord actually can move in and out to adjust for the final length.

I just finished installing my radar detector on my 2015 Corvette Z-51. I know this isn't the first thread on this procedure, but I had some difficulty interpreting the photos that had been posted, and I'm the kind of guy that wants a lot of detail before tearing into my new car. But I would like to thank dsliman and lachlansands for inspiring me to do this install. By the way, GM has been quoted as saying the C7 mirror is not "mirror tap friendly", but that doesn't mean it can't be done. It's just a little more complicated than with other cars. Here is my detailed guide on how to tap the C7 mirror to power a radar detector:
The cover just forward of the mirror needs to be removed. This photo shows the 5 clips that hold it in place. Cover just pries off.
The mirror mount rear cover needs to be removed straight back toward the windshield.
Best to pry it off starting at the bottom.
Inside the cover is the wiring harness. The two halves need to be separated and the half coming from the car (not the mirror) is the one to tap.
Pop the wiring harness away from the rear cover.
Push the tab on the driver side of the harness to release the rear half, and pull the two halves apart.
Tap the red wire (power) from the mirror tap to pin #2, which is the purple wire on my car. Pin #2 is ignition on, 12 v. The black wire from the mirror tap (ground wire) should be tapped to pin #5, which is also a black wire on my car.
The tapping pins are a VERY tight fit. You may need to pry the vehicle wire aside with a jeweler's screwdriver to make room for the tap. This was particularly true for the power (purple) vehicle wire on my car.
Reassemble the two halves of the harness, snap the harness back into the rear cover, then push the rear cover back on to the mirror mount with the mirror tap wire coming out the top of the rear cover.
Line up the 5 clips, and push the cover that houses the performace data recorder back on.
Install the Blendmount, the radar detector (mine is Escort 9500ix) and it works / looks great!
