im looking at base model c7 7speed tranny , i have read more than a couple of people having the lt1 blow up from oil starvation to the bearings ,,, about half afraid to purchase one any thoughts or input
i just dont want to have a new car that has to have engine replaced for failure
In February I bought a 2014 Stingray, base model with the 7 speed transmission. In less than 1000 miles I started having problems with it. In less than 2000 miles the Dealership had replace the clutch assembly twice, and finally the engine. They ended up doing a buy back and I reordered a new one. So far, so good!
Meaning what? How many c7s have been documented with blown engines?
Meaning do your homwork. Using the SEARCH function found in the middle of the red ribbon near the top of the page. Or the one above it that says Search.... Enter the words "Blown Engine". OR Car & Driver Blown Engine.

Its like this........ A mystery of life......with ANY CAR......... off the same assembly line same parts bin you can get a lemon!!!! I have no idea why this happens!!!!
Cars like a lot of stuff are extremely complicated. Chit happens.
Yes there are posts on cars with severe engine problems. BUT do we know the real story behind all of these incidents? Have the cars been modded? I don't know nor do most of us posting here.
Bottom line its a great car and GM is standing behind them. Buy it, enjoy, life is too short.
Not ONE. Do YOUR homework too, son. First read the OP's statement "more than a couple" , neither the OP or me ever said "a problem".
For you, Reading and the Search functions are your friends too!
Jeeze...
First thread you commented on had the word problem that you reacted to. I used bolding because clearly, you like that. Play nicely - no reason to act like a snot.
that would not have provided any recovery for my C6 Z06 engine... 5 years and one month into the warranty and they refused to cover the engine Replacement.
5/100 powertrain warranty so don't worry about it. Every model of car experiences engine failures, its just a very small percentage of total sales. Enthusiast forums have a tendency to blow issues way out of proportion. Just like Honda knows how to build a 4-banger, Chevy is pretty good at V8's

Over 37K sold, and very few "blown" engines. Search is not your friend, just went there and found nothing. Read documented, factual info on blown engines, found nothing. As far as reality goes for me: I have over 5500 miles on mine and she runs perfectly!!! Plus, I have the security of the warranty to fall back on. Having owned a C5 and a C6, my C7 is lightyears superior!!! I love my Vette!!! Get one!!!
I have more than 600,000 miles in Corvettes since January of 1990.
I now own my 6th Corvette - a C7. It has but 2,370 miles on it.
I'm leaving on a 4,000 mile trip December 5th.... the "fragility" of a Corvette is not something that _ever_ concerns me....
Then, too, that's true of any car I own. I just got back from a 1,000+ mile trip through the Texas Hill Country in a 26-year-old Ferrari.....
One can live in fear or or one car accept a few "slings and arrows" as they come..... and in the first 5-years, 100K miles - as others have pointed out: warranty is your friend (never needed mine for anything major.)
My opinion is ALL cars probably have an issue here and there. I have not heard of an epidemic of C7's blowing the engines. There are a few instances but no different then any other issues out there. No serious recalls about engine blowing issues yet, so I would not read into it too far. That's why the warranty is there. Not because GM knows the engines are going to blow up. For your protection in case. Don't sweat it, just enjoy it.
This is where I find value in Consumer Reports. They publish aggregate unbiased data. That data clearly shows that the Stingray is a very reliable car that has very few reported problems (including major and minor engine problems) and the owners love them. Forget anecdotes, look at statistics. The statistics say that this car is less problematic than most and is in a class by itself (well, with Porsche perhaps) as a sports car.
