This is my first Vette that I kept the "options" to the minimum as well as the aftermarket additions. For me my new Stingray could be called "minimimalist" and I'm really enjoy it.
To me the basic goodness of the Stingray is clearly evident. GM got the Stingray right.
Still sucks that we can't order both the painted and CF top with the car. Going to suck buying a CF top at full price down the line.
Get the standard painted roof if at all possible (35% constraint). Aftermarket transparent is about $1200. Aftermarket visible carbon fiber roof is about $5000.
One good thing about the GM build site, you can order what you want. Costs can run from the low $50's to over $75K.
It would be interesting to know, how many C7 owners have ordered the C7 to their liking, vs. the dealer building the car on what they might think people want and buying off the dealers inventory. In most cases when buying off an existing inventory, you may have to pay for options or color combinations that you don't want.
It would be great if GM had a better system than the allocation system. I have been waiting 30 days for my small local dealer to get the next allocation. At least I will get what I want for what I wanted to pay.
These cars are really big for aftermarket car parts and perfomance appearence enhancements. The aftermarket business is huge industry, and all realize that many options or appearence enhancements never recover the costs in a resale or trade.
However I think GM learned from the C5 and the C6 how big the aftermarket really is for Corvettes and learned from many of the aftermarket suppliers the demand for appearance mods in order to personalize your car. The fact that you have multiple wheel options, stripe kits, interior upgrades, etc. all allow you to customize your car.
Some will want to go the minimalist route to keep the costs down and some will want to customize with pricier options. Personally, I love the 3LT interior and CF interior trim.

I built mine the way I wanted it. It came in over $83,000 not including
Stinger stripes and clear bra.
Here's a pic of a non Z51 brake caliper. Not bad. If 2 people will be driving then you want a 2LT with seat memory. Other than that, pick your transmission, may an A8 like this one.

Oh that's what I have planned. 5K for the CF top is going to hurt though!
Vettes are a hobby for me. Making some "factory corrections" is part of the fun.
Next mod is to install the APSIS D shaped wheel I have and get it up to the folks at ECS to correct the low amount of air that enters the engine.
Please post pics when installed. I'm shopping my C7 now and as you know from my C5 forum habits, I'm already shopping my "factory improvements" and that steering wheel is on my list!
what I never get is the people on forums who get defensive and mad as they "leave their car alone"...
from the guys who mod: we don't care if you want to stay stock, as we say here 1000 times a day - it's your car, glad you're happy!
and you should not give a damn what we do.....its not like we're trying to pry your garage door open so we can mod your car...
I remember attending a local show two years ago and some stock Z06 owner getting totally bent over the fact that I painted my FRC covers red and my C5 vert wasn't a Z06. It was like I broke some kind of "Corvette Commandment". Plus, my painted FRCs looked a lot nicer than the OEM red FRCs. It wasn't even a comparison.

I actualy just hated them in chrome, actully put them back on when I could get carbon flash....LOL
well, he's wrong and you are right...maybe not for the right reason, but a stingray IS a fish. a cartilaginous one.
As far as modding goes, my goal has always been to make my car unique, and do mods that no one else has. I eventually cave and share them, but that's because I like you guys! As a matter of fact, I am having second thoughts on the Z06 grill, now that everyone and his brother seems to have one on his stingray!!!
