I was just playing around pricing out a Stingray and realized just how much one could spend on just appearance items alone! These are options that have no function other than looks. For instance, chrome wheels, exposed carbon fiber roof, optional color paint, red or yellow calipers, stripes, etc etc. You could hit 10 grand extra for just appearance purposes. WOW!
Personal preference. You just bought new wheels that serve no purpose other than appearance. And they look great.
How is that any different than clothing choices? To each his own. I think jacked up 80s sedans with metalflake paint and huge chrome wheels look hideous...but the owners like them so that's all that matters. Get what YOU like on the Vette and forget the rest!
I never understood how the exposed CF roof costs $2k more than the standard painted CF roof. I wish the roof choice was standard in terms of painted vs non painted CF. They're both CF, so whether you're painting it or putting some kind of clear coat on the CF to protect it, the bulk of the cost is in the CF itself.

Several reasons for the higher price. First, the CF weave must be perfect on the exposed CF roof. Not so on the painted version. Second, the clear coat on the exposed CF has a very expensive UV inhibitor. The UV inhibitor costs $60,000 per gallon, making the clear coat $2000 per gallon. Finally, like all options, they are priced at what GM thinks the market will bear.
Most appearence options will yield no return at trade-in time. In fact stripes actually detract from the value. There is an allowance for premium paint, I think three hundred dollars.

One good thing about the GM build site, you can order what you want. Costs can run from the low $50's to over $75K.
It would be interesting to know, how many C7 owners have ordered the C7 to their liking, vs. the dealer building the car on what they might think people want and buying off the dealers inventory. In most cases when buying off an existing inventory, you may have to pay for options or color combinations that you don't want.
It would be great if GM had a better system than the allocation system. I have been waiting 30 days for my small local dealer to get the next allocation. At least I will get what I want for what I wanted to pay.
These cars are really big for aftermarket car parts and perfomance appearence enhancements. The aftermarket business is huge industry, and all realize that many options or appearence enhancements never recover the costs in a resale or trade.
This is my first Vette that I kept the "options" to the minimum as well as the aftermarket additions. For me my new Stingray could be called "minimimalist" and I'm really enjoy it.
To me the basic goodness of the Stingray is clearly evident. GM got the Stingray right.
