Waiting for all the people who said that ordering a Z51 was a waste of money but yet sing the praises of the Z06.
The Z51 option ordered on a Sting Ray is a relatively good value for a guy who is tracing his car on a regular basis. Z51 for a garage queen that goes out for Sunday drives and car cruises is pointless.
In short, without all the feelings in play, the Z51 is a Stingray with upgraded part to make it more track ready. The Z06 is the best of the best, with all the Z51 goodness and a significantly more powerful engine. The Z51 is one hell of a car....The Z06 is one hell of a supercar. They are all Corvettes regardless of what people want you to think.

We all know that these are both formidable Corvettes. Lets not get carried away and blur the line between a Sting Ray with the Z51 option package and the Z06. There is a very profound difference between the two.
If you have an extra $15,000, and plan on taking it to the track on a regular basis, then go with the Z06. If you're satisfied with the size of your dick, but still want to drive a powerful car that will turn heads then go with a Z51.
Z06 is an entirely different model of Corvette which is wildly different than the Sting Ray equipped with the Z51 package. Unfortunately there are some Corvette owners who attempt to convince themselves that they have purchased a different "model" of Corvette when they check the Z51 option box. It becomes downright comical when "Z51" owners attempt to blur the lines between their perceived model and that of the profoundly upgraded Z06 which is in fact the only other "model" of Corvette at this time in the C7 generation.

Ummmm, I clearly say one is a car...one is a supercar!
From: Calgary, AB. There's a reason why white was the only color offered on every year Corvette. Proud Canadian German Jamaican!

Really.....for some, if not most, the asthectics alone was well worth the 2800$. So then by your logic the Z06 is good for nothing but a full time track car.
So, for my own understanding, both models share the same chassis, but the Z06 has upgraded suspension, driveline, and body panels. Did I get that right???
There are many differences between the two!! But realistically for how often we push our corvettes to there limits as a DD??? The answer is, not that often, or w'ed be in jail. I just can't fathom spending 100K which is a house for some. For a car that you will push it's limits maybe ten times a year. I know some will say not me, I race everyday!! That's cool, but realistically for me and MOST a base Z51 will do just fine!!! I haven't begun to push my C6 Z51 it's scary fast on pubic roads mated with a 6 speed!! PS like someone said for little detail like that , your better off goggling that. Both cars are fairly new and others are just learning about the new ZO6!!
The Z51 is its own completely different model starting in 2014 and I should know I have one!
= Z51 separate stingray Corvette model starting in 2014. Figured you guys were waiting for one of us Z51 owners to chime in.

So in other words a supercharged engine and clear tailights is the only difference?
There's not much difference. As you know, the big difference is the built supercharged engine. The Z06 is a wide body, with bigger wheels and tires to handle the significantly more powerful engine, IE. putting power to the ground and screaming around corners with a bigger foot print etc. Some content that is optional on the Z51 is included in all Z06's as standard equipment ( red calipers, mag ride,). The A8 tranny in the Z06 is beefed up to handle the extra HP/TQ. Bottom line is, the Z06 is a supercharged version of the Stingray Z51 built properly from the gound up. Is it worth the 20 grand more ? If one is just a cruiser, waxer, super thrifty type, etc, probably the Z51 is all one needs. On the other hand, if one wants a ride that will catapault you into the middle of next week just by tickling the throttle beyond normal Caddy cruising, then the Z06 will do that. To me, if you are a vette junkie and the budget will allow, don't even think about that low powered Z51. Go big !!!!!
I may be wrong here, but I'm almost certain that the A8 tranny is the exact same for the Z06 and the Z51.
The Z06 is track oriented car with larger cooling area for brakes, e-dif and different areo packages, stages 1, 2, 3 which will give it better down force. About 200 more horses and 200 more pounds foot of torque. Although both cars come in targa and convertable form, the Z06 comes in a fixed roof coupe as standard. It is based on the same platform as the Stingray Z51 package and has many of the same features. The Z51 is a track capable car which is still a street car, the Z06, while many say it is a street car, if one adds the Z07 option package it becomes more of a track car, softer tires, carbon brakes and very aggressive areo package. This version of the Z06 is more designed for the track.
There is also a slight difference in the interior as it is driver centric in focus. Also note that the base price is about $79,000.00 and the options will quickly get it to $90,000 in a hurry.
But more importantly is this, it is still Corvette. There are differences in visual and in price but they still look very similar. Unlike F cars, where there is a huge difference between models.
And many will say that it is a separate model, but I believe that it is a factory modded version of the Stingray. Same car, just on steroids.
Lot of difference even the frame is made differently.
Different valves to the light carbon TQ tube. Different gears.
Can not make one out of a Stingray I tried and now have the Z06.
