Default Bearing Plate Drill

Centered up bearing plate on back of frame rail, clamped and drilled. Unclamped, removed and completed drilling on press for alignment.

Default Bolted On

Install going well - very basic and easy. Taking my time..I tend to be precise. Here is raw install. Front shot as well as bearing plate from behind.

Default Air Deflector completed

Reattached air deflector. Fits nicely around tow hook receiver. VERY little of mount is actually visible.

Great work 15C7Z51. I plan to track my C7 this summer so would like to purchase your mount if you make it available in the future.

I need to set up a PayPal account and then I will be OK to sell. By the end of next week I should be up and running.

Default Very Happy- Finally have a Tow Hook

Complete- turned out great. Very nice fitment. Easy- Simple install- just drill 4 holes and your done. Key is temporary clamp and reinstall bumper to check grille opening alignment. I LEFT THE PIA 2 screw BLACK BRACKET BY LIGHTS OFF DURING ON-OFF FITMENT TEST and for final reinstalled BLACK PIA brackets by lights. Just made it easier- during initial removal I snuck a 12" extension in under bumper and loosened all 4 bolts in these brackets by lights to make initial bumper removal not to tough.

Default Z06 Grille

Z06 Grille is great for this tow hook mod. Great alignment and can move left or right a couple grille openings if desired - 6" as noted above.

I do not know exact cost yet but is under $200. I do not plan to make any profit on this and will pass on for what I pay- have not looked into forum rules if I am considered a vender not sure will check out. This is all new to me- assume I can set up a pay pal account and process that way- I think they add 2-3% cut- again I am guessing.

The fabricator is a local race shop frame builder (well know for their welding) but they appear not to be set up for internet sales etc.
So as it turns out I would be considered a commercial vender and am in violation of forum rules. I had searched forum rules prior but did not find anything but was notified I would be in violation. I was very excited about the tow hook, probably got caught up in the moment, and thought it would be easy to help out others but this is getting time consuming and complex. As I have a regular job that keeps me quite busy I will NOT be pursuing sale of the tow hook receiver. I will ask the shop I had fabricate the prototype if they want to pursue this as a business, become a forum vender etc. Presently they do not do anything online so not sure they will be interested. I apologize to those that I might have gotten hopes up but I do not have the time to set up all the "paperwork" here or even paypal for that matter. Hopefully the shop will be interested in doing directly. I will let you know if they have any interest next week. Again apologize to those following this thread.

No need for apologies. A really nice piece of work and, with your detailed information, not that hard to duplicate. Thanks again!

Wow, I'm still shocked/amazed that our cars didn't come with these in the trunk and there is only one guy in the country that sells tow hooks?! but his requires drilling directly into the frame and I don't think there are any support plates.

I'm definitely interested. Anyone know a good race/machine shop that can do this in Los Angeles?

If this prototype goes well, and there is some interest, he is willing to set up the water jet and fab up a batch.

Default tow hooks

I noted in a previous post that the load on a tow hook is relatively small as long as the wheels on the car still rotate. Even winching the car up on a flatbed is still a relatively small load. If you rolled the car you probably need a cherry picker to load it on the flatbed.

I use these tow hooks on the front and rear of my 3700 lb Saleen SC Mustang and have needed it a few times at the track when my serpentine belt failed. Works great!

It is all steel construction and not any "foo foo" aluminum "ricer" tow hook. The pivoting loop feature is nice for low slung cars and the pivot pin and loop can be removed when necessary.

I just drilled a couple holes in the tow hook to match the two C7 bolts (8mm I think and you can check the shear load on that bolt and it is strong enough, a 1/4" longer bolt can be used) that attach the transverse leaf springs to the car. Simple. all steel.

Simple.

Without a tow hook, how is a US car loaded on a flatbed when necessary?

Default tow hook

You may not like it but they will run the strap through your lower A-arm.
