Carbon Flash. What exactly is the point? I see it on some of the cars, like Shark Grey, and it looks good. Or is it an eyesore? I can't decide. I feel it goes well with Shark Grey and black wheels. But then the OCD kicks in and I wonder why the mirrors are painted a different color than the rest of the car. I honestly can't decide if I like it or not.
What is the purpose of the Carbon Flash? Is there a historical significance? Is this just another attempt to make the car look "sportier"?
I, for one, like the contrast of the carbon flash. Others don't, as evidenced by them painting the vents body color. I think the contrasting vents are a nice styling cue.

Its black mettallic, nothin more, just a styling choice by GM.
Seems GM is trying to offer options that appeal to younger buyers that want to have as much contrast as possible in their cars, so carbon flash on white cars with black wheels, and mirrors, are a popular option.
The CF badging and appointments also appeals to those with more subtle taste when used on car of a darker hue like SG, NRB and black cars.
its just an appearance thing. I personally got carbon flash badges because I didn't want any shiny pieces of trim on my car, but left the mirrors and spoiler body colored. Its funny though, I remember when body colored mirrors were an "upgrade" and black was seen as cheap, and I'm not even that old (41). I could have gone either way, but figured someday I would change my black wheels and didn't want to have those parts black if that time comes.
It's all covered in the previous posts, personal taste, to attract younger buyers, contrast of colors....more money for Chevy. Some do and some don't, it gives us choices.
I love the Full length carbon flash stripes on my Torch Red Coupe. I saw a S.G. Z06 with the C.F. stripes and chrome wheels, yesterday at the dealer while I was having my 500 mile service.
It had A.R.seats, but not the 3LT. Not sure I care for the C.F. on the shark grey. It seems to take away from the richness of the color. Of course the Z had not been cleaned yet.

It hasn't been mentioned yet so I will add:
it's nothing new, metallic black has been around for years on many vehicles...my 2012 Ford Flex had it, and many trucks come with it.; I used in on my C5 years ago on the wiper blade arms, etc. GM finally got on the bandwagon for vettes. Think of it as dusty black, because that is what it looks like....I prefer high gloss black, or so-called piano black often on wheels. Be aware there are a couple varieties of it which use a mixture of fine particles giving a rainbow effect in strong light. So, if you are custom modding your GM car, be sure the paint you buy matches GM's with the silver dust pigment.

Though at 33 I don't know if I qualify as a 'younger buyer', certainly don't feel any younger!
I'm really glad they offered the emblems and fish in CF, got a set on order from Gene for my 2014 NRB.

The reason Shark Gray was added and Cyber gray was removed. GM wanted more contrast...
