Default 2015 Base Roofs

Just ordered a 2015. Was told after that because of carbon fiber shortage in the industry that the base roof could not be acquired. If I wanted to wait for some indefinite time I could be on a wait list. So I had to go for the clear roof option. This does not bother me because I chose the dual roof option. But what does bother me is that GM will charge me 6 grand later if I want the body colored roof. I would think that since it is the base roof that they would give it to you at the regular price when they become available since it is the base roof. GM sticking it to loyal customers.

MSRP is $5,850. Discount parts suppliers have them for $4,095.

I wonder if GM is favoring Z06 builds with the roofs since it can't get sufficient supply to cover all the vettes.

What is the "regular price" if not the price it is from parts departments?

This is just a guess, but I think the very high parts department prices are due to the limited availability. If they were priced much more reasonably, there would be a run on parts departments for these which would make the constraint issue even worse. They have to have some number available for parts to handle accidents, etc., but a large demand at the parts departments would be counter-productive to the constraint situation.

I see several C7 painted roofs on the popular auction site for less than 2K and even the visible carbon fiber ones are less than 2.5K. I must be missing something here.

I'm confused, the base roof is constrained (40%), yes, but not unavailable.

Could be that your dealer simply was not getting an allocations for it?

I was unable to get dual roof in Nov due to it being constrained at 0% but my dealer had allocation for base roof, I ordered it, and then ordered the transparent roof through Cultrag for about $1400 (promo at the time)

His dealer is full of it! As you stated, they are at 40%. I ordered, mine 1/15, and it's already at 3000, TPW 2/9-2/15, I'm getting the painted roof.

...........and it also depends on how many constraints you managed to get hit with. The roof was my "only" one. Check this thread for the latest constraint report. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...t-reports.html

I rounded up to 6k but it was 58+ that I was quoted. It just seems that if if this is the base roof that I should not be charged for a GM short coming. I would think that they would not penalize me for their problem.

That painted roof (AW) is the only thing holding me at 1100. My dealership only has one allocation and its for me. I guess I've just been unlucky. Going on 7 weeks.

Sorry, but I don't buy your dealers story. Allocations cannot be "saved" in any way. If they are given an allocation in a consensus cycle, they either use it or lose it. Perhaps your dealer is saying that they expect to get an allocation someday. But if they're only getting one it could be a long wait. Also, when they do get that allocation, if it does not allow the painted roof, you will have to change your order to the transparent roof. Otherwise, they order the C7 for another customer, order it for inventory or lose the allocation.

The owner of the dealership is a close personal friend. Like family. The new car manager is working with me personally. Not a salesman. I don't know how allocations work but he has told me multiple times that the roof is the only thing holding up my order. I do not want the transparent roof. It is what it is.

He called me last Tuesday and told me he is working with his GM rep and he thought there was a good chance it would go through this week. Obviously it didn't.

I was thinking the same thing, they are all over eBay for under 2k.

Look closely at those listings (not the used listings, but the "New" roofs listed). They are NOT GM parts. They are made and sold by Melrose Corvette. Not knocking them, just want to make sure that people understand they are not genuine GM roofs.

I am now considering purchasing one of these roofs but would prefer it be off a C7 (slightly used) or new GM. I'm not real good at finding listings on that site. Found only 1. Help is appreciated and PM's welcome.

The carbon fibers roofs have been problematic since last year. I was forced to take a transparent roof because they were on constraint. There were no Z06s being built then. Apparently, GM's supplier is the problem. I too feel GM should let owners get a painted roof at a decent price since it is a no-additional-cost, standard roof. The transparent one cost $995 additional.

Talk to a different dealer, you'll get a different story.

If a base painted roof that comes standard is 5800 then how is the clear Lexan roof a 900 dollar option? I may have had too much diet soda tonight and missed something....
