Bunch of judgmental ****** around these parts…. You'd think some of these people were actually at every corvette crash, in the drivers mind and able to give facts why it happened to so and so and why this or that, hahahaha!
Can any of us honestly say we have not tried to see what the C7 can do on the street at one time or another? I know people should "take it to the track"but that is not always realistic. The closest track to me is about 50+ miles and my buddy has a membership. I think he paid 16k to join and then pays large dues every month.
I can barely afford my C7 so this additional expense is not in my future. I'm not saying I drive around like I'm on a track when on the street but honestly, who can say they have never tested their C7 on a long, quiet, winding country road?
For all we know a deer jumped out and he tried to avoid it and hit something and went airborne. Or maybe someone was coming at him is his lane and he tried to avoid it?
Everyone blaming this driver is jumping to a conclusion. Same thing happens to a guy in an SUV or Honda and we don't hear anything about it. Since it's a Corvette, he must have been drunk or speeding or both?
Someone lost their lives needlessly and that is a tragedy. Can't we just leave the judgement, investigation and blame to the Police to determine and just mourn a fellow Corvette owner.
Holy crap! After viewing this photo, I am not sure having your seat belt on or not would have mattered. I still believe in seatbelts and always wear mine. Tragic.
Very sad, but all fatal incidents are. In aviation, we bite our tongues with the public until the facts are known. Unfortunately, in accidents of this nature, the facts may never be ascertained as the investigators assigned could range from highly competent and well trained to Sheriff Uncle Bubba's moronic nephew.
Based on the visual evidence, we might speculate that this could have been a rural road near some sort of housing or sheds by a farm. Deer? Dog? Cow? Tractor pulling out? Night time? There are so many possible contributing factors.
Looking at the damage done, I would hazard that the accident report will likely determine something like 100+ at the moment control was lost. That is huge damage for a car like the C7 Z06. Inertia ruled the day once control was lost.
I would only add that almost anyone with a car like a Corvette has likely escaped fate's cruel grasp more than once. Close ones are part of the game. Sometimes our luck just runs out when the chain of involved factors just attains one factor too many.

Glad to see the word, "incident"
This, based on obvious speed, was an "incident" or a "crash". It was not an accident. I look forward to a cogent argument how that much damage could be done in a single vehicle crash while near the speed limit.
This is the second C7 fatal in a few weeks where apparent causation was "spirited" driving.
The temperature that day was also quite cold so it may be a factor...
But we all paid for these cars and free to do exactly what we want to do with them, so nothing to see here. Carry on as you will.
This is most likely the key if the car had stock tires. At this temp, the summer tires from the factory on these cars have very poor grip unless adequately warmed up...not easy to do on a highway. Terrible grip as a matter of fact.
Uneven surface + cold summer tires + curve + high speed (obvious from photo) + tree (see background of photo) = disaster
It's a truly helpless feeling when you as a driver do everything right in a high performance driving situation, except forget to consider cold, hard and traction deficient tires. I've been there on a track and know the consequences...albeit with a large, safe runoff area.
Very sad news indeed. I know I have, and most of you have done some "spirited" driving in the past, but this surely makes one think. "There but by the grace of God".

Correctomundo. No shortage of sanctimonious judgemental types on here. EVERY vette owner has done something dangerous and stupid in their vette. More than once. Those who say they haven't are lost Lexus drivers who mistakenly bought a corvette or they are lying. Most of us who are lucky enough to have gotten away with it, try to learn from our mistakes( and don't pass judgement on those who are still in the "learning curve").
Second one in a week where the driver didn't make it and the passenger did. Two different circumstances I know, just interesting.
I certainly have done a lot of stupid things in my day in a car, probably to some i have done stupid things recently. Just remember that when these things include other people whether passengers or in other vehicles, then it is NOT alright. Take the car and slam it into a tree by yourself, OK by me.
Id rather be a ***** for calling you or anyone else out then for casting judgement on someone who died in a car accident. ****ing worthless
Sorry dude. That picture of the wreckage tells me all I need to know. That Z06 disintegrated...result of very high velocity impact, apparently with that freshly mangled tree behind the wreckage.
