Default Curb Alert Issues

I have been saying all along that my Curb Alert has been a bit sporadic in terms of functioning. I tried a number of things but finally isolated it to a faulty crimp on the battery attachment end, that came that way from the manufacturer.

As it turns out that was not the full problem as I still found it to be intermittent at best. It turns out, that the fuse holder was not making good connections and I was not getting 12V through the fuse at various times.

I soldered the connections on both ends of the fuse holder and put a "dab" of solder on each of the ends, where it makes contact with the fuse, to make it a tighter fit with the fuse in place. That did it!

I would suggest two things.....
  1. Solder all connections and do not trust the crimp connectors when you install the product. This is important as the wire is really small and the crimps are not that tight.
  2. The manufacturer should use heavier gauge wire for the 12V lead and a better fuse holder as the one that comes on it is a bit "Mickey Mouse."

The product is great but mine seemed to have issues with the crimps and I would think that you would be smart to check each one during the installation process. Be sure to check the wires on both sides of the fuse holder as they are also subject to issues.

This is a very good product but I honestly believe that the overall quality could be improved upon by using a heavier gauge wire and by making the crimps more robust. I mounted my unit just in front of the oil tank on the Z51 (2015) just above the ground stud. It fist very well in that spot and it is easy to wire the 12V line and the ground.

Overall, this is a good product and, if it is properly set up, I suspect that it would a strong positive method for keeping the front end off of parking curbs. I am going to get one for my 1998 as well.

Never had a problem with mine, but it always good to hear the experience of others.

Hi Scott
Good info!! I have a CurbAlert-Mini on order for a '15 Z51. Will check connections. Will also look at mounting it the same way! Thanks again for the input!
