as others have said, I only run into it traffic. Take off from a light, people stop accelerating right when you go to shift and it pushes you into 4th, then they slow down more and you have to shift back down. If it hadn't forced 4th gear, 2nd would have been fine. Slow and go traffic... not fully stop and go is the only time I run into it. Of course that reminds me I need to hook up the intune one day. I've been gun shy on the intune since static electricity screwed up the tune in my avalanche and I had to get the ECM flashed...
Keep it in 1st gear till @ 18mph then shift to 2nd. My skip-shift feature rarely kicks in.
CAGS really pizzed me off when I bought a M6 C6 5 years ago. It didn't take me long to get used to winding first gear a little higher to avoid the CAGS experience. I bought the eliminator but it became such a non-issue for me that I never installed it.
I put about 4500 miles on my C7 before winter and I doubt that I hit CAGS 5 times in those miles. The few times I did, I just pushed the shifter up to 3rd gear. No problemo IMHO.
Lol in my ZL1 Camaro I had to literally try to get the 1st to 4th to shift, rarely did I ever naturally get the skip shift feature. Reminds me of a buddy and his GT Mustang would shift while accelerating so quickly never running a gear out a bit, man after awhile it was annoying like someone running fingernails down a chalk board.
Does starting out in 2nd avoid it? The skip shift is disabled in my C5, the dash light still comes on when it wants to force a shift to 4. I only rarely see it.
I've occasionally started from 3rd when I was getting used to the shifter and missed 1st. It still launched fine, just a little slower. It kept up with the car ahead of me.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds the 1 to 4 shift a pain but I have to vent. I love my 2014 AW LT2. The handling, power, the attention, the look is awesome. I find the 1 to 4 shift takes so much away from the reason I purchased the car with the manual transmission. I want to shift through the gears, not skip them and bog in 4th. My 2012 Mustang Gt has the same feature but not as sensitive but still a drag. I know about the whole gas milage thing. I get it. But this is a Corvette! I want to feel the gears! I have recently learned about an easy fix to this horrible feature and am planning to remove it but I don't know what Chevy was thinking when they put this on the Vette. Anyway, besides that, I could not love the car more. I hope all are enjoying theirs the same. Be safe!
Mustangs don't have skip shift, at least mine didn't.
