Default Need Positive Thoughts

So tomorrow I am going to try to work a deal trading in my 2012 Grand Sport coupe on a 2015 convertible. On Saturday they gave me a price for my car if I ordered the convertible from them. I asked about the credit union member pricing today and they said they would do that for me but my salesman was off today so I couldn't finalize anything. Tomorrow I hope to combine the two and make a deal. I haven't asked about allocations yet... I hope tomorrow is our lucky day so keep your fingers crossed for us

Make SURE they have an allocation for the version you want BEFORE you go any further. Don't take their word for it. MAKE THEM PROVE IT

And make sure any delays caused by constrained items on your order are understood as well

You all are da bomb(s)! Everything went great today. I am taking my 2012 down there tomorrow to turn over and ordering the new car. I'll post tomorrow after the deed is done but basically they are buying my car now with the equity to be applied to the new car and I will order our new C7 tomorrow. I am pretty excited!

Like Ken said above, better make sure your dealer has allocations and make the deal contingent on your order going to Event Code 2000 within a specific time period. When the order goes to 2000 and they provide you with a GM Order Workbench print-out proving it - Then and then only, let them have your car on trade. You should be able to place a deposit of $1,000 to get the order placed rather than giving them all your equity now. Lots of threads on here of guys who have made the same deal as you describe, only to be sitting at 1100 months later and the dealer has no allocations.

Good luck, but do your due diligence.

BJ

Absolutely essential. In the worst-case scenario, once your car is turned over to the dealer, consider it gone and you have lost all control of the deal. If the dealer has no allocation or that allocation is committed to buyers in front of you, you may never get a new car, and your trade is now in someone else's garage. All the while the dealer is holding your money, stringing you along with excuses that translate to longer waits.

I've worked with dealers that will wait to take your trade at delivery and guarantee your trade-in's value at time of delivery if you don't exceed a specified mileage. This keeps you in control. If they can't deliver your new car, you can back out of the deal and you still have your trade car.

It is all going so well working with the local dealer. The salesman has been very helpful and hasn't rolled his eyes once at me He has been talking directly to the owner to push this deal thru and I couldn't have asked for better service.

The allocation thing is the only question I asked that I did not get a actual answer to... The salesman told me that he was not sure but that since they are ranked number 256 in corvette sales that even if they don't have a number they will have one within a few weeks. I asked him if he could find out. When he came back he said that the owner told him "no worries" and that my car would probably come in before the Z51 they ordered last week because of the constraints right now. He said that with the constraints, the cars without constraints are going thru faster.

I did ask the question of what would happen if 4-5 months from now I still don't have a car and he said they would refund me the equity in my trade but that they (him and the owner) could not see that happening as they have never waited that long for a car.

I'm a little concerned but I think I am going to go for it and hope for the best. My wife is not concerned, and you know what they say, "happy wife, happy life". With my Chrone's disease, my body can't deal with the stress of an un-happy wife and she wants the car so I will be heading down there today to officially start the ball rolling.

Thanks for all the info and positive thoughts. I'll post when I have more info.

Thanks,
-Bob George

Best of luck, Bob...nope don't need that stress.
From what you're saying I'm very leery of what they're telling you.
Was one of the ones who traded in my C6 in July, picked up C7 in NOVEMBER.
Fingers crossed for ya.

Others have given good advice regarding not giving your car to your dealer. I have a 14 Z51 and have ordered a 15 Z06 from a large volume dealer. My deal is that the dealer will give me $x for my 14 Z51 at the time of delivery of the 15 Z06 if I still have the 14 Z51. If not, then it's MSRP and we are done. As far as I am concerned, no trade to the dealer until I have the new car. If I sell the 14 for a better price before the new car comes in, I am that much better off.

Fella's,

I'm not afraid that I will end up without a car. The only concern I have is being delayed in getting a new car. I know that at some point I will get my equity/deposit back from them if they fail to deliver on the new order. My only concern is that it may be a few months before they are willing to throw in the towel if they can't deliver. Once I get the equity/deposit back there are plenty of dealers that will order my car from me and I'll be free of the long distance trade-in issue.

I don't think many of us would have done it your way and keep so much faith in a dealer, but that is a call you made

good luck, and hopefully your vette will be here in 4-5 months!

It takes 6-8 weeks from order going 2000 status, which is when the dealer's order gets picked up by GM. that's an automatic 2 months. so your dealer can hopefully have an allocation in 4-8 weeks. I believe there are allocations every other thursday.

Well it's a done deal so it's all over for now. I talked with the owner today and he assured me that he has allocations and everything will be fine. I should have my order number tomorrow. I started a new thread here: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1589004526

Thanks again for all the input and positivity. I know most of you would not have moved forward without seeing the allocation and I did give that serious thought but I was not going to push the owner of the dealership to provide proof of the allocation. I feel comfortable that things will work out great!

Never heard of Lizard, NM although we do have plenty of them out here!

Thanks again,
-Bob George
