Default Multi-mode exhaust question

Why is my 2014 with NPP exhaust is called "multi mode" instead of "dual mode". I've searched the forum but only find opinions. I though it was either open or closed valves, nothing in between.

You have Silent, Touring, Sport, and Track I believe. You can change the exhaust mode by which driving mode you're in and in the settings.

I do understand that the different car modes (eco, touring, weather, sport, & track) control the operation of the exhaust valves but my confusion (my thinking) is the exhaust valves only have two positions, open & shut. I guess "multi mode" can mean two modes.
