Car only has like 200 miles on it right now, but I wanted to try the eco mode on the highway and I couldn't get it to turn on V4 mode past 70 mph on a flat road (no decline/incline) if I put the cruise control to 70, it kicked on. at 71+ it wouldn't turn on. I was in 7th gear
anyone know the limitations? break in period related? V4 is set to a certain speed?
yes... that's how I got it to go into V4 at 70 mph, but not 71+
Not sure if its a break in limitation logic or not. I own a 2015 C7 Z51 M7. It will remain in V4 over 71 mph. If I am on a long stretch it will cycle back to V8 mode if I approach an incline.
I have noticed that in 7th gear on a flat highway in Eco, the difference in mileage between Tour (V8) and Eco(V4) is negligible. The best I have done over a 100 miles in either is 29MPG. Still impressive MPG. That said, I am no expert concerning Eco mode and don't use it much.

you would think it'd use half the fuel, but i'm no expert lol
There is nothing the car does in Eco that is involved with break in, in fact, the only way at all the car is diff in break in is the yellow changes on the tach for highest revs suggested.

Then I'm not sure why I can't engage the V4 mode on the highway at 71 mph+ There has to be a contributing factor for this...
I'll try again tonight on my way to work and see what happens.
How did you know you were - or were not - in four cylinder mode?
When I was still in the break in period, I tried all the modes for one tank of gas each. While in Eco mode, there was never any indication of how many cylinders were operating. I did a combination of city and highway driving.
My best mileage (as indicated by dividing the mile driven by the gallons of gas at the next fill up) was in the Sport mode. I have just left it in Sport mode since then.

Chevrolet Corvette Owner Manual (GMNA-Localizing-U.S./Canada/Mexico-

Read the manual end of page 9-18 and beginning of 9-19
cut and pasted below from the on-line manual about engine break in for the first 500 miles. Do not use the cruse control! If I recall correctly I was also told not to use the economy mode during the break in period.
"Driving and Operating 9-19
.
Do not exceed 4000 rpm.
.
Avoid driving at any one
constant speed, fast or slow,
including the use of cruise
control"

On the instant mpg screen in the instrument cluster it will indicate whether you're in V8 or V4 mode.
It does work above 70. I recently completed a trip of a little over 2000 miles and set the cruise at 75 on multiple occasions. Felt it change every time.

I know brother. Did it for like a mile or two to see if that would help. I def don't use cruise control otherwise. Part of my curiosity experiment and kept it to a minimum.
Just to change up the RPMs on the highway, I change speed between 65-80 and change gears between 6th and 7th

in the info pages there is a mode that shows it. I think it's the instant one

so weird... I really wonder why it wouldn't turn on. I'll try again tonight
In Eco mode on my 14 manual with cruise set at 76, on flat sections it will switch to and stay in V4 mode. Slight incline and it goes right back to v8.

As mentioned by Mdm23 above, the only way to be sure that you are in V4 is the instant mpg screen. This will confirm it. You might wait till you have 500 miles on the car and try setting the cruise control to 75 on a long flat stretch of highway.
My A6 has been over 100 in V4 mode. I only have a picture at about 93 in V4 mode.. One thing I did notice it doesn't like to go into V4 mode below 2 grand... So maybe in 7th your RPMs are too low????
Eco mode is meant to work when the motor transforms to a 140 hp car in eco. Any load whatsoever, or lugging, will not let that happen. Essentally, unless you are on a flat road with no headwind, it will stay in v8. Yeah, 7 th gear will kick it out of eco unless there is no load, gear 7 can lug occasionally.
Reading this thread was interesting....for the simple reason that I drive a LOT of highway miles everyday going to and from work. BUT I have my car is Tour Mode all the time. and my car goes into V4 mode anytime I am maintaining a constant speed, or using the cruise.
So this begs the question what is the real different between Tour and ECO modes due to the fact that the car goes into V4 mode in Tour.
