Default Inspection Help

Hi guys, i need help

I purchased a c7 corvette from Michigan last month. 2 weeks later my car was shipped to my house (Texas). First time out of state buyer, My vehicle temp plate is expired already & i was expecting to get a license plate and inspection stickers in the mail but i did not get it .

so I called the dealer & told me about getting a VIR (Vehicle inspection report) from texas and send it to them. I went to firestone to get my inspection but it failed. my car only has 500 miles and I dont understandy why it failed the inspection. Firestone told me that I failed on the O2 sensor and Evap system.

Do ya think there is something wrong with this brand new car? I am planning it to go to my local dealer and ask them what is going on. It is holding me to get a license plate. I wanna get it asap so i dont get pulled over.

What do i need to do ? also if i pass the inspection, can i just go to DMV and get the licese plate instead of going through all this BS with dealer ship ?

please let me know what i need to do

First of all, Firestone was wrong in even testing a new car for emissions (OBDII). New cars in Texas do not require emission tests for the first 2 years. You only need a safety inspection.

The various OBDII tests that constitute the emissions inspection take a number of "drive cycles" before they are ready. There is nothing wrong with your car.

As for the registration process, did you pay the MI dealer sales tax? You will owe Texas sales tax for any difference between what MI collected and what you would normally pay in TX. You will also need the MSO (Manufacturers Statement of Origin) which the selling dealer should provide to you.

Ok so should i just need to go to different inspection station and aske them for safety inspection & tell them my car does not need OBDII? Will they just give me the inspection sticker?
If i get the sticker I just need to go to DMV right?

I paid the sales tax, they calculated the sales tax for texas and charged me.

No inspections stickers in Texas since March 1. Now you get an inspection report and must have that before you can register (or renew your registration).

My situation was a bit different than yours. I bought out of state, but they did not collect any sales tax. They sent me the MSO, I got a safety inspection (actually had it done at my local Cadillac dealer - purchased multiple Cadillac's there) and then went to the county tax office to register. You will need a completed Form 130-U. If you do not possess the title because it has a lien, you also must complete Form VTR-272.

Cars purchased out of state and registered in certain metro areas do need an emissions test. Also the inspection is only good for one year in this case.
Take your proof of inspection and certificate of origin to your local tax office and pay the difference in paid tax and the also the cost to register the car and they will give you a plate.

I live in a metro area (DFW) in one of the counties listed below that normally requires an emissions test. However, new cars that have not been registered previously do NOT require an emission test. I purchased my C7 out of state, took delivery at the NCM and drove it home. Safety inspection only and then registered vehicle at county tax office. Paid my sales tax, got my plates. Agree that the inspection is only good for 1 year unlike an in state purchase that gets a 2 year inspection.

Designated vehicles registered in designated counties must pass an emissions inspection prior to registration. The emissions inspection is required annually, in conjunction with a safety inspection.

Designated counties include: Brazoria, Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, El Paso, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, and Williamson.

Designated vehicles are vehicles capable of being powered by gasoline, from 2 through 24 years old, and registered in or required to be registered and primarily operated in a designated county.
