Received a call today from Ron at MacMulkin. Painted top finally came through. I have an allocation!! Thanks Ron and MacMulkin!
Actually, to be fair, I've only had my order with MacMulkin since late Feb. I waited 6 weeks for my my local dealership to get an allocation and they couldn't. Plus, Ron did all the ground work finding me a dealer who would do the courtesy delivery.
My local dealer (whom I've bought several cars through...and ordered my first C5 through) wanted $1000 for courtesy delivery!!! Wouldn't budge. Ron found dealership close by who would do it for $300.... Much more reasonable!!
My "local" dealer just lost all my future business.... No maintenance, no more Corvettes, no more cars/trucks....period.
Time to start counting the days....ummmm...weeks....then days....
Also got our allocation today from Macmulkin. That painted roof created a lot of trouble! Congrats.
Same to you!
I was starting to get a little nervous. Especially considering what others have said on here about a big price increase for 2016.... If I had to wait for a 2016, I definitely would have reassessed my options.
How in the world can a painted top cause a constraint? That's crazy.
The painted roof is Carbon Fiber, just not as high a visual quality as the one used for the Visible Carbon Fiber Roof. GM and their CF supplier are unable to produce as many roofs as they need to allow unrestricted ordering, but are unwilling to spend the cash for a complete second production line. The result is that both Carbon Fiber Roofs have been constrained all model year. This week is actually pretty good, as the painted roof is constrained at 45% and the visible CF at 30% of production. That means 75% of orders will get one of the two, and only 25% have to have the transparent roof. At times this year, the total for the two CF roofs have been below 50%, so this week is a positive step.
The biggest issue with the roofs is - the convertibles aren't selling nearly as well as GM's forecast of 35% of total sales - it is more like 25% of regular C7's and 15% of Z06's.
