Camera is way better in the Camaro. Corvette just crap comparatively in that aspect only, camaro also has back up sensors that I like, Corvette does not.
You wouldn't want those sensors as there would be those stupid looking bumper circles on the rear facia..
I'm wondering whether something may be wrong with my backup camera, because the image quality is so poor. It really hit me yesterday when I was riding in a rental Camaro, and noticed that the image quality from the backup camera was so much higher resolution than the one in my Stingray. That just don't seem right. So now I'm wondering whether they just put a low-res camera in the Stingray, or whether my camera may be a lemon.
I was wondering the same exact thing and I think I found the reason. The camera itself is not low res at all, in fact it was better than the 5 series loaner I had a while ago and def better than in my families q7 and infiniti fx. I noticed sometimes that the image is so clear but most of the time I can barely see it. I think the biggest issue is that the c7 has a central mounted exhaust and the air coming out rises directly up to the camera lens making it look smokey and blurry. On windy days the camera looks really clear and sharp and im guessing the fumes don't have a chance to block the lens . Also, when switching from reverse to drive, the camera stays on for a few seconds while driving away and the image looks super crisp.
I just picked up my 2016 Corvette Coupe. I noticed from the get-go that the camera was crap. The other night I had to go to a urgent care center and backing up in the parking lot was almost useless with the backup camera. I would gladly pay for a better camera or a resolution. It is so crappy. Hard to believe they would do something like this. Take a great car and knock it down a peg or two just because of the camera. Having rear vision is very important to me as I am backing up. How can we notify Chevy or an after market manufacturer that we won't accept this crap in an otherwise fantastic car.
Backup image is fine for me for what it was inteded to do. It's as good as the other vehicles that I own that have rear backup cameras. My '16 has the largest backup screen of any of the other vehicles also.
I guess I didn't have an expectation of it needing to be better. However, the front cameras -- man I love that feature. Just love that feature. They are not 4K cameras either, but the LMK what I need to know to park as close to something without ever worrying that I am going to bump it.
The more different car manufacturer's products I get to drive with the backup camera, the more displeased I am with the Corvette's camera. Honda has the best for the money, I really like the camera on function tied to the turn signals; Tesla, "wow" compares to my flat screen TV (the large multifunction screen is super great, all of the car functions are controlled via touch screen).
Do what I do. I have a tube of glass wipes in the cubby inside the trunk. Every few days I clean my camera and then the bevels on my exhaust tips with 1 wipe.
I can't find the thread on this Forum I saw a while back.
But with Google looking for "PDR update for C7 backup camera" another Corvette Forum has some info on this.
It Improves the Clarity from what I've read
Compliance Date: Compliance is required, in accordance with the phase-in schedule, beginning on May 1, 2016. Full compliance is required on May 1, 2018.
So most cars that were designed to be around after this period already have them standard
It seems about the same quality as my daughter's boyfriend's Escape. It does the job.
The only issue I have is seeing the screen with the top down in full sun. The same issue on both my '05 and '14 nav screen. It would have been nice to have a setting to turn it brighter like the sound option when the top is down.
