I can't for the life of me figure out where to order the special square bit needed for this diff fluid drain plug. Has anyone changed their own, and if so, what bit did you use? No Hex works, it's perfectly square.
I haven't seen one but is it maybe a 3/8" square ratchet drive? Or 1/2"?
I watched the C7 Trained mechanic check the fluid level in my C7 and the plug was easily removed. Don't recall the size drive.
However I am remined of the difficultly in removing the plug from my ’88 Vette Doug Nash 4+3 Trans. Tried to do it myself. Made a large Allen wrench from a 12 inch length ¾ inch hex stock heated cherry red two inches from one end and bent 90 degree in a vice (still have the tool.) Even with a section of pipe slipped over the end it didn’t budge. Car was still in warrantee so brought it to the dealer who had his mechanic try; it wouldn’t budge. He called his contact at Chevy and said he was worried about breaking the aluminum case. They said use a larger wrench! He brought it over the the truck repair bay. They used a very large wrench with a ¾ hex socket. I recall the noise when it finally broke lose. In sounded like a 44 Magnum being discharged! However, no cracks!
