The window valet is a good product and has been around quite a while. The difficulty in closing the hatch with the windows up and the doors shut has been around since at least the C5 model - mine is difficult unless I have a door open.

From the forum comments since I got my C7, the first week in October 2013 there are a number of folks who's car did not latch without a door (or window) open or pushing to latch. I watched my hatch frame bend when I tried to push to latch and stopped. Even if I use the two hand approach on the peaks near the window edge I see the frame deflect so I won't do that either. If I forget and try to close with the door closed, I pope the hatch up, open the door and then close it. Not a big deal, I seldom forget. However it closes so easy with the door open it's obvious for some cars the rear memory wire activated vent (mine physically opens)is just not large enough. My '08 C6 was fine for 6 years but it had the motorized pull down. I speculate that the 85 prototype C7's or IVERS (as they were called) must not have been as air tight as some production cars or they would have caught this issue.
I don't recall any problems with my '93 or '88 Vettes but they had a stronger hatch frame so if I did push to latch it would not have been an issue.
