I recently had a small repair problem with my c7. I made an appointment at the local dealer in Sudbury, ON for 8:15 a.m. When I arrived I was told they would need the car all day since there was only one corvette mechanic and he worked on other cars as well. The appointment I made apparently meant nothing. Like many of you I am bit **** about my c7 and there was no way it was sitting in the yard all day with cars coming and going. So, I cancelled the appointment, called the dealer where I bought the car 400 km away (WN in Richmond Hill, ON). They told me to bring it in and they would take it in when I arrived. What a difference. Immediate service when I arrived, problem fixed and they washed the car. In an little over an hour I was on my way home. Makes a difference when the dealer respects the cars they sell!

You are more than a bit ****. You drove from Sudbury to Toronto for a small problem on your C7 ? I hope you don't have a bigger problem with your car. The cost of a tow to Toronto would be a little steep. Its only a car you know. You would be better off trying to build a relationship with your local dealer.

Your decision I really do not think the first dealer showed any disrespect, they were upfront and told you the situation. Big difference between respect and special treatment which is what you were looking for.

Yeh, but I got a free car wash! My plan was to build that relationship but I believe an appointment means something. I can understand an hour wait (which I would have done) but not a full day when I was told to bring it in at 8:15 a.m.

Here is my take on it. Sudbury is not exactly a large city. It is also common for small dealers to ask you to leave the car. They tell you to bring it in first thing in the morning since they assume you have a job you have to get to. You also have 2 Chevy dealers there. Try going to the other dealer next time and tell them you would like to wait for the car so ask them to book at an appropriate time. Going to Toronto for service is nuts.
An appointment at a service department is akin to an appointment at the doctors. You are not going to see the doctor as soon as you get there, maybe in 1/2 an hour or so. but never when you walk in the door.
Doesn't mean that one or the other is not showing respect, they are just busy doing there job.
My take on this is, if busy that means that they are most likely good at there work. Would you drive and hour and a half to another doctor because your doctor didn't see you right at 9:00 am? I know I wouldn't, might get PO'ed but I would wait.
It is a car and no matter how you feel about it it is a Chevrolet.
Yep, would have been nice if they showed a little more respect and got to your car sooner, but seldom will you get special treatment from a Chevrolet dealer.
But I am happy for you that you got to take a road trip and get you car fixed.
An appointment is an appointment. Bring it in at 7AM and leave it is "first come, first served".
My dealer sees me rolling in for my APPOINTMENT, as he walks up, he greets me by name, discusses the car issues, immediately takes the car back and within 20 minutes has it in the bay for the mechanic to work on.
That is an APPOINTMENT in my book.
My other dealer was a drop it off at 7AM and we'll get to it. Funny, I don't go there any more.

I agree. An appointment is an appointment.
And related to the doctor answer of the previous post (by someone else), that's because doctors are running behind. Dealers who don't work on your car right away (which includes within 15-20 minutes) aren't meeting the appointment criteria.

Exactly. An appoint only means you are scheduled to be seen on a specific day. Nothing more. Time in and time out is dependent on workload and type of problem being handled.
Not to say it isn't great to get special treatment (we all like that). I'm happy to be able to call in the morning and get my car in for oil changes the same day. Seems like most selling dealers tend to provide that special treatment to their customers.
Disrespect to is having an appointment and then being turned away because they are too busy.
If you are **** about your car, you should not let a dealer wash your car. I have a great relation with my dealership, but they don't even allow corvettes to be washed. Last thing you want is some porter dropping his rag and then wiping (scratching) down you entire car.
The 1st dealer should have said "Drop it off in the morning and we'll get to your car sometime today". They sandbagged you by not saying that. Screw them and find another dealer. Plus there are "some" that want to treat you like trash if they know you "didn't buy the car there".
Went to a Chevy dealership in FL for the very 1st time. They have nitrogen and my tires were low. Service writer tells me to bring the car around and leave the keys in it and she would take care of it. Go have cup of coffee in the waiting room, she says. Just 10 minutes later she comes back, and my car is all set. "How much do I owe you?" I said as I grabbed for my wallet. She says: "Have a great day and welcome to our dealership". Holy crap I almost passed out in shock. Think I found my new favorite Chevy dealership in FL.
I live out a ways in the boonies; the nearest Chevy dealer is 25 miles away. Fortunately they are a good consensus dealership. They only sell about 4 Vettes a year and try as hard as I could my last two Corvettes came from out of town dealers with larger allocations. They have good mechanics and one is Vette certified and I always make an appointment and I wait for my car. No probelemo they usual get to it with a ½ hour of arrival and all is well taken care of. Yes they worked on my Chevy 4x4 pu when I had them. They probably sell as many PUs (mostly 4x4s) than they do cars as this is Northern NYS.
I know some dealers frown on taking in work from people that do not purchase their car/truck from them. This outfit does not, (they know I would purchase from them), but other people are higher up and get their Vette allocations)

Agreed. My dealer (Large NH dealer) asks if I want the car washed when I drop it off. I always say thank you but no.
The first time I went in there they asked and I said no, I'm really kinda **** about how I wash my car and they said a lot of people are, that's why they ask.
I agree, an appointment is an appointment. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but don't the dealerships have a "by the book" amount of time to finish what ever scope of work needs to be done? Then, it becomes more like the doctor example where they run into unforeseen problems and get a little behind. If they are off by 4 hours then they just don't have their crap together. It's much better customer service to schedule a week further out than to try and squeeze another one in that day. I think the good one's have figured that out and schedule accordingly.

If the policy of a dealer is to work on the car whenever then don't have appointments. End of story.
There are aspects of both quotes I agree with. Not knowing the geography of Canada, I will stay away from the issue of distance to a dealership. Also, I believe you said it was a Saturday appointment and the dealer told you they had one mechanic on duty.
I suspect appointment is probably not the best descriptor as opposed to making a "reservation". The dealer/mechanic can only work on a specific number of cars in a day, so it would be appropriate for you to schedule the visit. They need to know what the workload is going to be for that individual, or they are going to disappoint a lot of folks who bring their cars in only to find out they couldn't get to them by the end of the day. I'd be much more upset over that.
It is unfortunate you were not happy with the service, or planned service, but I do not think they were being disrespectful to you, probably just did not do a good job of communicating the situation.
I just dropped mine off for an oil change and fuel filler recall. I had an appointment. They didn't greet me with a cold beer and usher me to a private waiting room. I'm pissed and will have to find another dealer.
I agree an appointment is an appointment. Within the last 2 years I have walked out of a doctors appointment and a dentists appointment because they let people in front of me despite me being on time ( actually 5-10 minutes early ). These other people had appointments later but showed up early and were granted access in front of me. I know because I saw the time in sheet. As soon as my appointment time came and passed, I walked out.
The doctor had the nerve to call me and tell me I would be fined, to which I told him he would be hearing from my lawyer ( wife ) because I was on time for the appointment and they voluntarily let someone in front of me. He quickly waived the fine and asked that I dont come back to which I replied I planned on it.
