I mean this is a simple logical statement. If you have appointments, then the car should be worked on when it comes in (or within a REASONABLE amount of time, say 10-15 minutes later). Specifically when you come to the dealer WHEN THEY OPEN. If the dealer cannot service the car at the defined appointment, then this should be communicated BEFORE you bring the car in.

If the dealer doesn't work on cars when they come in it should not be called an appointment, rather you will be at the mercy of the dealer at the time of drop off.

I see NO POINT in even having an appointment system, as a business, if you can't say that this is when something will be worked on.

This entire thread has nothing to do with Corvettes, or special treatment, or even courtesy. It has to do with, and pardon my French here, knowing what the f***ing definition of the word appointment is!

As I said earlier, either it's an appointment or it isn't. This isn't rocket science.
I havent encountered any dealer who will commit to an appointed start time for anything other than an oil/ filter change......

For anything else , they generally want a morning time when you can bring the vehicle in, and they get to it when they get to it.....

If I was a dealer service department, I would do it the same way for the sake of shop efficiency.....

Specifically , having the tech working on jobs as he is free, instead of having down time when a job takes less time than anticipated or when the inevitable no show occurs.....Or having the gun to your head when you run behind due to a late start because the customer was late, or the job was more complex than expected.....

You have a totally unrealistic view of how the system operates.....To do what you want would require the shop to allow ample extra time for each job, to allow for time over-runs, which would substantially increase shop rates to pay for this......

No you totally miss my point. There is NOTHING wrong with operating that way, but don't call it an APPOINTMENT! Say, if you'd like it worked on day X, please bring it in the morning on day X, the earlier you bring it in, the more likely they are to be done with it the same day.

This way you are not making an appointment, but rather you understand that if the car is brought in that day it will get done if you bring it in earlier.

Everyone in this thread is so quick to call other people unrealistic. The issue isn't about realism it's about the fundamental grasp of the English language that most people here seem to lack. Words have meaning, use them appropriately.

So basically what we have here is a semantic dispute. What is an "appointment"?

If you have enough money to own a Corvette then you have probably have owned other new cars and should know how a dealer "appointment" works. Next time, unless it's an oil change, hitch a ride back to your house and grab another car. If you don't have an extra car then grab a loaner from the dealer. Then it doesn't matter how long it takes.

In my biz I get crap time to time from people that think they are too important to wait. If I'm running late I always call and am apologetic. If you give me too much crap however, you will be calling someone else.
