I have an ipod classic that I really want to keep using. It has over 4000 songs and about 100 playlists on it. Can anyone give me any tips about using it in a C7? I am getting a 2016 so I don't know if there are any changes to the infotainment system that will make it easier or more difficult than it is in the 2014 and 2015 models. I seem to remember reading a couple posts where folks were having problems using their ipod classic in their C7. Thanks.
Pretty sure you just plug in the aux cable and hit the media button and it should connecy right away. Or you can use the usb and im assuming do the same thing, connect via media button.
Ipod classics are a hit or miss situation, there is no magic to "using it the right way", some pull too much power, some seem to work ok....
I have two classics that didn't work well after a couple weeks, I moved everything to an SD card.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that mine will work as I don't have a clue as to how to move the music to an SD card while maintaining the integrity of the albums and playlists. I plan to use a USB cable hoping that this will increase the chances of the car being able to read all the music on the device. Thanks for your input.
Here's something to keep in mind; iPods are not supported by CarPlay. You'd be a lot better off with an iPhone 5 or newer. I already carry a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus so that will become my primary storage device for media in my C7. In the car I am upgrading from I had an iPod Classic and it was a PITA! It would randomly and frequently deplete the battery, the car couldn't charge it fast enough while it was in use. It also lost connection very often giving me an "unsupported" message on my display.
The bottom line is that the 2016's will work marvelously with an iPhone 5 or newer. iPods may work OK, I couldn't personally say. But CarPlay is sure to be the better option at this time.
Yeah, I'm curious to see if my 160GB iPod Classic from 2007 will work in my C7.
docprego- has a good point about draining the battery. I've had 2 dead batteries on my XLR, and I'm pretty sure they have both been from the iPod connected to the Coastal Lockpick integration and not driving the car for a week.
Having a convertible, I'm also a little nervous where I can securely store the iPod while parked with the top down. Locking the cubby hole in valet mode is a pain. And putting it in the armrest compartment is too easy to steal.
You can buy a 128 GIG SD card for practically nothing on eBay, which might be a good alternative.

Do you find any lag in the system when using an SD card for music? I currently use my iPhone 6 and there is always quite a bit a lag when trying to switch between tracks or looking for other music.
I'm fine with using an SD card but I have no idea how to transfer the music as I sold the CDs. I understand it is not easy to move the playlists and albums from an ipod to an SD card.

No lag with SD...migrating playlists requires a bit of computer skills......other than that, its a better deal than ipods and such...

All it requires is a cheap/ free program ,houdini looks good for osx, , I used to use XPOD....that gets the tunes from ipod back onto your hard drive. Then easy transfer to SD....
This is a bit of an old thread, but I tried switching to a genuine Apple iPod cord (with an Apple logo on the USB end) and my iPod classic from 2007 now works on my 2015 C7!!
So before you completely give up and just use the SD card slot, try using a different cord for your iPod.

I bit the bullet and bought a refurbished 4th gen ipod touch to use in my C7 and I use the classic in my Audi. I guess I should have tried a new cable but it's nice being able to leave each ipod in the car.
