I don't think people are upset about it, just curious given that it does seem odd to appear to manufacture the car incorrectly on the assembly line.

However, working on assembly lines myself, I can tell you that new options often don't have the proper assembly instructions to the line workers even though they are order-able by customers. As a result, they get fixed initially in post-assembly quality test area and that in itself starts the process of fixing the line instructions.

It could also be that there are correct instructions but they don't have the 'chrome delete' part in inventory, so rather than stop the line or prevent those cars from being produced, they are making them with the wrong part intending on fixing it later when the supply chain catches up with demand. That's what also happens sometimes in my business although this is rare - if we don't have supply of the options needed we'll put those options on constraint to keep them from being ordered in the first place.

Has the 2016 parts catalog been posted somewhere? I'm interested in seeing if the Z06 grill itself is a different part from previous model years or if they just added camera mounts.

If that's the case then they will have to take the front off the car to swap out grills.... Which will lead to threads complaining about bumper cover factory fitment. haha. I dunno... The chrome piece is fine. If you require a front license plate you don't see 1/3 of it anyway.

I ordered carbon flash too. But for the badges not the grille. If my grille is chrome the new z06 grill will look that much better getting installed.

I have no idea. If we can get part numbers for the 2016 parts and compare them to 2014-2015 part numbers we may be able to see if there is a difference.

Has that catalog been posted on line somewhere? Tried searching for it, but couldn't find anything.

Thanks for the update. I also have the black grill on order. My car was built the day after yours. I suspect there was a supply problem or an internal broadcast issue which caused the cars to be built with chrome.

This is exactly why car manufacturers do a two week quarantine on new model start ups. It allows them to correct these types of issues. I am confident when you get the the museum for pickup the car will have the correct grill.

Thanks for the post. I ordered EYT as an option also. From MacMulkin and with R8C. I guess we will know soon if a mistake was made. Maybe this is one of the reasons for the extended QC hold?

I ordered EYT. Maybe this is why my car seems to be back inside the factory since yesterday afternoon. It previously moved from one outside storage lot to another, and now is apparently back inside.

I understand the owners who do not want the chrome bar but why the hoopla over a problem that really does not yet exist.
I brought the issue up because I saw my car come off the line with the chrome bar. I can assure you that getting efficiencies on the line doesn't mean taking a car from the back lot, pulling the nose off and replacing the grill. Given that the cars were coming off the line and I personally witnessed that, it is somewhat of a concern on what the "plan" is to get it resolved so that if/when it does show up at the dealer that there is a plan. Personally, if I see a car come off the line with an order option that is not correctly implemented, I have a little bit of a concern and it is a problem. Since GM dealer support wasn't even aware of the problem, it is pretty much a problem.

Since I am having R8C, I am not picking it up at my dealer. The dealer I bought the car from is on the other coast from where I live. The incentive for the dealer where I live to correct the problem after I drove from BG to Seattle is going to less than receptive and it certainly isn't going to be quick.

So, if I can raise awareness to GM about the issue, which has happened, then I save myself a boatload of time in the process and hopefully save a bunch of others a boatload of time. For those that like to spend time getting things resolved after their car is delivered, please stop reading this thread.

FWIW, I had raised this issue to my purchasing dealer (beginning of the thread) and to Shane at NCM. You all saw the response from GM above. Shane contacted me a couple minutes ago telling me that the issues would be resolved at the factory before the car is delivered to the dealers (or R8C in my instance).

What isn't know if that means an additional delay or not.

Fully understand why this might be immaterial to you. I have to schedule flights with my car and get back in time for work, so I have a very tight window of scheduling the R8C. So, it's actually a pretty important thing for me to know about BEFORE it hits R8C.

Last I knew reading a thread and determining if the conversation was relevant or not was not a perquisite to participating on this forum. I look forward to conversing with you on other threads on the forum where we both share a common interest.

I will keep updating the thread with information as I get it for those that have ordered EYT for the sole purpose of having the chrome bar delete and will let you know if my R8C is delayed because of it and if it really shows up corrected.

Take what you want, leave the rest.

Thanks for the follow up, it looks like it will be taken care of at Bowling Green. I wasn't looking forward to having to have mine repaired at the dealer.

It sounds as if it was a broadcast issue or a supplier issue. Either way, I'm happy it is being taken care of.

Are you driving your car home from the Museum delivery?

Maybe they'll just add a piece of tape, vinyl, etc., over the chrome piece like so many have done already, which might explain what the OP saw. This would be no different than adding vinyl stripes, or other stick-on items, at some point while on the assembly line, or shortly thereafter... or later as a dealer installed item... or not.
