Default Shell Nitro Gas

I’m coming to think Shell’s advertising isn’t all hype.

In addition to the C7, we have a 2009 Pontiac G8GT which has an LS series engine. The car has been simply outstanding at 48K miles, excellent turbine like smooth acceleration, good mileage etc.

When it was new I was active on the G8 forum and the slightly “lopey” idle the car demonstrated was considered normal attributed to the AFM/DOD.

We’ve been using the Shell gas for several tank fulls and I believe that there is a noticeable improvement in idle smoothness.

Haven’t had enough mileage on the C7 to even hazard a comment on what if any difference it might make with that car. Don

I have been running Shell Nitro in my truck and it seems to run better.....placebo? Maybe. But it's the same price or within 5 cents of other 93's so who cares, I will run it.

All of the brands around here come from the same refinery.

Additives make the difference.

Which is why I use Chevron or Texaco when I can get it.

We have much in common. I also own a Pontiac G8 GT (2008) with the 6.0 L76 engine, was active on the G8 Forum and now have a C7 (15 Z51). I also had a 2009 G8 GXP with the 6.2 LS3 engine. Wish I still had it - was Stryker Blue Metallic. We kept the Ignition Orange GT for my wife's DD. Loved the G8 models. You are right about the engine lope on the L76. Interesting that the Shell Nitro has cleared that up - will give it a try.

I posted a thread earlier about this new fuel - https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...rom-shell.html - thought you might find it interesting to read.

Here is a pic of my GXP

I have started using the new Shell fuel in all my vehicles. I am hoping all the expectations are true.

Somewhere I read a about a test on fuels and Shell provided a very slight performance advantage, so that's what I've been using for years.

Yes they often do come from the same refineries but the additives are NOT the same, they’re tailored to what the company i.e., Exxon, Chevron, Shell etc specify. Don

I fill up at Shell all the time. Is it all Nitro? (93 octane).

Shiny, well maintained cars. Mine was a real screaming good deal particularly with the rapid growth of car prices. Turned in $5000K of GM points when I bought it.

In the interest of correctness, I’m suggesting that the “lopey” idle is better, remains to be seen if it goes away completely.

I’d like to believe that I’m not falling prey to the placebo effect that Higgs mentioned. Don

I've also recently switched to Shell for all my vehicles. Top tier, close to where I live and same price as other 93 octane gas in my area. I just got Shell cards for my family to force them to use Shell. The 5 cents off per gallon is just a bonus.

I also have a G8 GT and awaiting my '16 C7 (sensing a trend here?) and noticed that with nearly 79K on it that the "lopey" or loopy idle is virtually gone...and I have not used Shell gas in years FWIW. Love my G8, can't wait for its littler sibling (or cousin) to join the family.

I don't think it's the gas... I think your G8 is all carboned up!!!! You need to go out and blow it out a little. LOL

Still have my 2 G8 GT's ( modded). No Shell gas in our part of Iowa. Only 93 is at Wally World... At least it's still under $3.10. They also have E-85 & E-15.

I was on both G8 Board and GRRRR8 Forum. RIP Charlie....

I use nothing else, it keeps the tank and injectors clean.

Had my first experience with the new Shell the other day and I am less than impressed.

I've been going to this local Shell station for a few years but just the way things have worked out, this is the first time I've used it since the new stuff came out.

Note on the pump said V-Power Nitro w/no ethanol in pumps 7&8 and 11&12. I was on another pump so I moved to one with no ethanol and filled up. As I'm filling I noticed the price was $3.55/gal and the octane was 91. I looked at one of the other pumps and the ethanol V-Power Nitro was $3.35/gal and 93 octane. For a frame of reference, the regular 87 octane ethanol unleaded was $2.74/gal and premium at most places has always been 91 octane with no ethanol and about 50 cents higher than 87 regular. There are very few stations of any brand that sell premium with ethanol in it.

I haven't checked any other Shell stations to see what's up with this rip off scenario, but I will. It may be just this station but the premium at this station before the V-Power came was always basically the same as everywhere else. I understand maybe they have to pay for all of those BMWs they're giving away but this is blatant gamesmanship.

Anyone else seen similar situations with the new Shell premium?

It's only a few cents more and worth it, IMO.

Do you have any objective proof of that? Just curious.

Seems that Chevron and Texaco are the only brands with Techron, the stuff y'all use to get the fuel gauge working.

Any Top Tier fuel is going to keep your tank and injectors clean. The placebo effect is alive and well.
