The ones in the headlight lenses and on the back window are subtle and only visible from close up. The ones on the rear of the car in the photo are not.

Actually, it's not necessarily wrong, if the plural word ends in a number, or is an abbreviation or acronym. See rule #6, here:

The one thing you can guarantee about English is that every rule has exceptions. Following grammerbook, HD's could be considered the correct plural, but Vette's would show possessive, not plural.
