Default 2016 MyLink system

Can someone who owns a 2016 record a solid walkthrough of the new MyLink system? I know the appearance and feature set hasn't dramatically changed, but I'm interested in seeing how much quicker the system is, how the touchscreen responsiveness has improved, and how well CarPlay works on this system.

I appreciate that, but I'm looking for someone that already has theirs and can post a video in the short-term.

I've yet to even order. I wanted to see the new system before I did so. If it's not a significant enough improvement to me over the old system I may just buy a used C7.

The "Big" improvement is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. If those don't interest you I would go used.

Yes, these do interest me, but I also know that the old system can be quite slow, so I wanted to see how much the performance has improved with the newer hardware.

I'm wondering the same. So far I recall one anecdotal account that did say it was snappier than the previous system.

I would get a 2016 then since smart phone integration is not backward compatible.

Best I can tell (and I admittedly haven't used it), CarPlay has four features I would use. Phone, music, maps and messages. However, all four of these functions are already available in my '15. Don't get me wrong, I actually prefer the Apple CarPlay version as I'm already entrenched into the Apple ecosystem, and think it has a cleaner layout. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that there is a duplication of effort as the transition to CarPlay/Android Auto takes hold. Auto manufacturers have existing comparable base features (nav, phone, music, etc.) so I still don't have that upgrade itch yet (not counting the Z06 itch).

What you are not thinking about is that I anticipate that Android Auto's apps will be tons better than MyLink. One you didn't mention is voice integration. Sure MyLink has it - but it sux big time. I tried for like 5 minutes trying to talk to MyLink and get directions to DMV. I tried DMV. I said it slowly. I said Department of Motor Vehicles. It could not find the place. The voice integration makes you say street number, street and city and state! Why city and state?!? Whipped out my cell phone and said "OK Google... Navigate to DMV", it no only found it but set a short countdown timer to start the navigation - smart! If I hit my programmed Home button MyLink shows a screen where I have to hit Go in order to start the navigation - dumb. There's a call button but why would I call - I'm not home! I'm here. I suppose if you lived with somebody there might be a reason to call them, but I doubt I'd have that reason when I'm trying to do navigation. If I lived with somebody chances are I'd have programmed a button to simply call them. Yeah it's not a great deal to have to hit the Go button but then again it's not a great deal to have to use your key to open the door but we all like the FOB right?

With MyLink I can send directions to the car with the Onstar app on the phone but not from the web site! Dumb. And you can't send more than one address - the second one overwrites the first one! And I believe I need an Onstar subscription of some sort. What, make me pay for bad service?!? With Google I can go to Google maps and send the address to my device and I can send as many of them as I want.

Google Maps is up to date and has current traffic conditions. MyLink has the traffic conditions but I fear that'll die if I drop Onstar.

Google Music is where my music currently is, MyLink has only that which I put on a USB stick. Pandora is not my music - it's a radio station.

Android Auto supports what I use the most which is BeyondPod for listening to podcast which I do some 80% of the time when I'm in the car. BeyondPod already supports Android Audio. So I can go into Android Auto and when playing music select the BeyondPod app. There are others too like Tunein and more on the way. What does MyLink have? Pandora. That's all. One frigging app. How would you install a new one?

MyLink has "Vehicle Contacts" and your phone's contacts. When you go into say the Nav and wish to drive to a contact you have to switch from Vehicle Contacts the stupid default to Phone Contacts because chances are the contact you want to drive to is not in your Vehicle Contacts list. Why maintain two different contact lists? Stupid.

Messages: MyLink's messaging sux. In fact it doesn't even work! I don't use Samsung's built in messaging - I use Google Hangouts. So I get no text messages nor phone messages. I assume Android Auto will be able to integrate well with my Google Contacts.

So you see, there are many reasons to favor Android Auto (I will not speak of CarPlay because I'm not an iGuy ;-)) over MyLink. While many of the same general functions already in MyLink, they are far inferior to Android Auto right now. And Android Auto will only get better and will be updated in real time on your phone. When do you think MyLink will get an update? And how? Go to the dealer for an installation of new software from auto mechanics?!?

Carplay would be awesome if it was wireless

Odd thing is my '15 GM truck I can use SIRI and it will use HFP and send the directions over the car radio like a phone call. The Corvette will not do that, the 'HFP' option is not even there. But google maps will do HFP with the C7, wont with the truck lol. Cant get Siri to use google maps for directions

Agreed that the mylink NAV sucks, I wanted to get to the center of a town nearby and argued with the voice recognition for 10 minutes. Without an address or intersection it was a no-go, not to mention the years old four lane highway I was on did not show up on the mylink app. Apple maps/Carplay took about 10 seconds to find the middle of the town where I wanted to go. I thought Ford sync was bad, why someone at GM cant go buy a Dodge and copy their infotainment I dont know

I find that outside of navigation the OEM solutions work well.

I don't know how well Siri works on my iPhone because I steadfastly refuse to talk to a phone, or even my Xbox for that matter. I only talk to my car because well I'm driving.

I don't even use navigation that much anyway.

But I agree android auto and car play are mostly redundant. I don't even really use apps on my phone (I use the music, texting, and phone capabilities mostly). So I won't use them in my car either.
