With MyLink I can send directions to the car with the Onstar app on the phone but not from the web site! Dumb. And you can't send more than one address - the second one overwrites the first one! And I believe I need an Onstar subscription of some sort. What, make me pay for bad service?!? With Google I can go to Google maps and send the address to my device and I can send as many of them as I want.
Google Maps is up to date and has current traffic conditions. MyLink has the traffic conditions but I fear that'll die if I drop Onstar.
Google Music is where my music currently is, MyLink has only that which I put on a USB stick. Pandora is not my music - it's a radio station.
Android Auto supports what I use the most which is BeyondPod for listening to podcast which I do some 80% of the time when I'm in the car. BeyondPod already supports Android Audio. So I can go into Android Auto and when playing music select the BeyondPod app. There are others too like Tunein and more on the way. What does MyLink have? Pandora. That's all. One frigging app. How would you install a new one?
MyLink has "Vehicle Contacts" and your phone's contacts. When you go into say the Nav and wish to drive to a contact you have to switch from Vehicle Contacts the stupid default to Phone Contacts because chances are the contact you want to drive to is not in your Vehicle Contacts list. Why maintain two different contact lists? Stupid.
Messages: MyLink's messaging sux. In fact it doesn't even work! I don't use Samsung's built in messaging - I use Google Hangouts. So I get no text messages nor phone messages. I assume Android Auto will be able to integrate well with my Google Contacts.
So you see, there are many reasons to favor Android Auto (I will not speak of CarPlay because I'm not an iGuy ;-)) over MyLink. While many of the same general functions already in MyLink, they are far inferior to Android Auto right now. And Android Auto will only get better and will be updated in real time on your phone. When do you think MyLink will get an update? And how? Go to the dealer for an installation of new software from auto mechanics?!?

Odd thing is my '15 GM truck I can use SIRI and it will use HFP and send the directions over the car radio like a phone call. The Corvette will not do that, the 'HFP' option is not even there. But google maps will do HFP with the C7, wont with the truck lol. Cant get Siri to use google maps for directions

Agreed that the mylink NAV sucks, I wanted to get to the center of a town nearby and argued with the voice recognition for 10 minutes. Without an address or intersection it was a no-go, not to mention the years old four lane highway I was on did not show up on the mylink app. Apple maps/Carplay took about 10 seconds to find the middle of the town where I wanted to go. I thought Ford sync was bad, why someone at GM cant go buy a Dodge and copy their infotainment I dont know

I don't know how well Siri works on my iPhone because I steadfastly refuse to talk to a phone, or even my Xbox for that matter. I only talk to my car because well I'm driving.
I don't even use navigation that much anyway.
But I agree android auto and car play are mostly redundant. I don't even really use apps on my phone (I use the music, texting, and phone capabilities mostly). So I won't use them in my car either.
