Canceled my appt. at the dealership for tomorrow. I wanted to talk with someone about the temperature requirement previously mentioned but couldn't get a return call, so I'm postponing the update for a while. I have not used this dealer before and wanted to give them a try on something simple like I thought this job would be, but I'm not getting good vibes, so they're out of my focus for now. Since it isn't a critical update I'll probably wait until my next free oil change at a dealer 35 miles from me in November. They have a big Corvette clientele and my experience with them has been good, but I was just hoping to establish a relationship with a dealer closer to me, in this case one mile from my house. C'est la vie.

I kept having a vision of the tech stalling the converter in the shop to quickly raise the tranny temperature, losing his grip on the brake pedal, and careening through the shop wall. A paranoid worry-wart I am, I am.

Also, as a motorcycle rider I drive more defensively than most, and I don't like a tech with unknown driving skills taking the car out for that length of time, especially with the drivers we have around here. Call it OCD if you will, but I don't like it.
I agree with you. They should have you go with them if they need to test drive..

My first ZR1 was driven more than once when in for service. Came back with a tear in the interior as well as a slurpy/drink spilled in the console. Once it had grass in the wheel wells. Never again..

My current ZR1 or my A8 Z06 aren't going to go through that!

I have a feeling they would decline, stating insurance rules.

They were just cutting some donuts in the adjacent field during their lunch break. No reason for concern.

Recently bought a used 2015 Z06 with the A8 transmission with 13000 miles on her.
Was experiencing the harsh 3-1 downshift and the occasional slow engagement into reverse when first started.

Went to the dealership today and had the TSB PI1473 update performed
How can I tell whether it was truly updated?

When I go to: https://tis2web.service.gm.com/tis2web/ and check K71 Transmission Control module It doesn't appear as though anything changed. I have the before and after.

Did they tell you they did the update ??

Those symptoms are mostly cured with a fast relearn procedure

How is the car shifting after you had the service ?

Sure they said they did the update and sure they charged me for it. I just wish a standard OBDII scan tool would tell me software versions.
My transmission problems were sporadic. Every now and then it would hesitate to engage drive for about 4seconds or so and an occasional hard downshift from 3 to 1. Haven't driven enough yet to call it fixed.

Using that web site will not tell you

You would need a GM MDI device. GDS2 software and a subscription to the GM TIS website .

The A8 is not a smooth shifting transmisson and every once in awhile mine will not downshift correctly or I will catch it between gears and it will shift hard

It's not like the trans in my Taurus but then again my Taruis trans can't handle 800 hp in stock form like the A8 can ...... it's a performance transmission with performance firmware in the TCM

If it's working, I would just drive it and enjoy it

Also ... harsh shifting, up or down, is cured with the fast relearn procedure

Dave
