Default Does your C7 give you nostalgia?

Just some late night musings while I wait for Windows to update.

Does your C7 Corvette ever give you nostalgia? I've driven other Corvettes but have never owned one. But, my C7 brings back memories that other cars haven't.

My first car was a 1985 Firebird TransAm. I had a blast in that car through high school. Many many memories working on it with my dad from trying to do body work ourselves to almost setting it on fire when flames shot out of the carburetor.

Next was a black 1996 TransAm WS6. That was my baby. I would never wake up early on the weekends unless it was to wash and wax that car (which was usually every weekend). I would spend hours upon hours outside cleaning it, making it perfect, taking pictures of it, etc... Yeah, I was obsessed. I had to sell it due to an unfortunate personal situation. The day I saw someone drive it away was almost heart breaking. I can still picture the tail lights in my head as it pulled away.

Every car I've owned since then was purely utility. Not that I've hated my cars. But, they were just tools to get from point A to point B. That was until I test drove a C7. Once I sat in it and started it up, it immediately brought back memories of my WS6. Even to the point I got choked up a bit. It still does it every time I get in it. I really don't care much for hand washing and waxing my other car. But, once I got the C7, I felt like I was back in college with my WS6 when I would make it a point to wake up early to get a start on cleaning it up.

Anyway, I'm sure my wife thinks I'm nuts. But its crazy how an inanimate object like a car can bring back so many memories.

Am I the only one?

Every time I look out over the fender peaks, I remember riding in my dads 69' vette. Just such an eerily similar line. I can remember it like it was yesterday. I get it even more so when I take my son for a ride. I point it out and tell him to remember what it feels like because it'll be that much better when you're driving yours in 30 years.

Default Yes the memories come back

I grew up in a family where a car was a tool to get from A to B. Some how I escaped. Rebuilt a SBC(265) when I was 15 for our 56 pickup, bought my first new car in 66, a 66 Impala. Entered USAF pilot training in 67. A friend convinced me a single 2nd LT needed a Corvette to chase women, so I bought a 67 427 coupe. When the first payment was due I realized a 100 an month for a car payment, an another 100 for insurance, a least 100 for my bar bill didn't leave much for eating and chasing women. Sold the car 6 weeks after I bought it. Always knew I have another but all those things that happen as we get older happened finally 22 years later I bought a used 85 Corvette. What a turd. Ran great but leaked and the 4+3 left a lot to be desired. Then came a new 90 Corvette better but not the same as the 67. Four more Corvettes came to live, one a 71 BB 4sp Convert(that still lives here) almost measured up to the thrill of driving the 67. Then came the 2015 Z51 coupe. Every time I get in this car I have flash backs, the sound, the torque, the feeling of being in a cockpit again. Don't get me wrong the 90 Corvette and up were quantum leaps above the 67 and 71 but didn't provide the same visceral feeling when behind the wheel. The 15 bring back that feeling of the real joy of the open road.

Yes it does....when I was about 7 years old I lusted after a Vette. When I asked my father why we didnt' have one he said they were too expensive, too much money to work on them because they always needed work, etc. While I was in college I stopped by the local Chevy dealer and sat in one - for the first time. I thought this was about as close to a Vette as I was ever going to get. I was driving a Toyota Corolla .
I thought I would never own one...well, see my avatar.
AND by the way that is a beautiful picture of your ride.....

Not really.

But the C7 interior layout: the seats, gauge cluster, and info screen are reminiscent of the C4.

Very jet fighter pilot/cockpit feel to it.

No! Latest and greatest for me. I do have a clone of my first car, 1965 Corvair, doesn't drive anything like the C7 (in the sixties any lateral G over .5 was about the limit).

It makes me nostalgic for a time of analog gauges and a car I could actually wrench on.

The design reaches back to the C3 era but with a modern flare. Of course, my '75 is nostalgic and I feel it (in my back) after every long drive.
The C7 gives me the same pleasure. Without the back pain.
