Real mileage

Police don't set speed limits, they enforce them. State legislatures set speed limits. And state legislatures are supposed to answer to the people.
And as far as mileage, my Stingray gets about the same mpg my 4 cylinder, 90 horsepower Datsun got in the 1970s. Better mileage on the highway than that Datsun got. I don't feel terribly guilty. If you (safedriver) are really concered about gas usage why do you drive at all? Take mass transit, or ride a bicycle. Or a horse.

Thanks for the info. It appears it can get good mileage on the highway but probably not in the city.
I don't understand why anyone would need or want a car with so much horsepower as you can't legally drive over 65 mph. Unless you want to be a danger to everyone like the guy that showed his speed at 161 mph.
With such irresponsible drivers, maybe the government should put some type of control on how fast cars can be made to go. I saw one posting where the writer wanted to know where he can buy a radar blocker so he can speed without worry of a ticket. These items should be banned by the government.

Clearly you are trolling for a big response from the group here.
But actually your thoughtful comments inspired me. I am going to go write a letter to all manufacturers of high performance cars and ask that they immediately cease and desist all development of cars that can exceed 85mph. Clearly we are endangering the general public operating these high speed cruise missiles at triple digit speeds and they need to immediately banned for the safety of all.
Further, I am going to write to google and offer to donate the proceeds from the sale of my high performance car collection towards driverless car development.
I am going to ignore the reality that a well trained driver, going 150 mph in a car designed for high speed, on a road with miles of visibility and in dry conditions, will be far less dangerous than your idiot teenage daughter who thinks she can drive in freeway traffic while texting her equally moronic boyfriend about her common core math class.
If we eliminated texting and driving and required meaningful driver training in America we could eliminate speed limits completely and still reduce accidents. Rant over.

Most of the responses were responsible and appreciated.
I don't know what a troll is but it appears to be an insult. Now, to those who don't like government controls, I would point out that every traffic law, traffic signal, highway safety design element, and many car design elements - including average mileage - etc. are all mandated by the government so my opinion that having the federal government limit the top speed of a car is nothing unusual.
Again, nobody really needs a street legal car that can go 161 mph. If someone really wants a car that can be driven at these speeds, they just need a car that can only be driven on a racetrack.
Having a car with a big V8 that is used for everyday driving wastes gasoline and pollutes the air. It is inevitable that such cars will soon go the way of steam autos and will be replaced by electric cars.
Some states already ban radar blockers so why not all states. It is only used by irresponsible drivers that want to break the law and speed or run red lights. In most states driving just 20 mph over the speed limit is considered reckless driving so having someone say driving 150 mph in a corvette is safer than my daughter is a really stupid statement. The speed limits are set by the police to make everyone safe.

I'm proud to say my lifetime average is now 16 mpg.
My last 20,000 miles has been 19 mpg. I must be slowing down in my old age.

I have gotten slightly over 30 mpg on a road trip but my "real world" mileage in 7000 miles of driving has averaged 24 mpg. My real world does not involve much city driving, mostly pleasure cruises. Still, 24 mpg for this performer is amazing to me!

Have had my c7 for just over a year and my Lifetime MPG is 14.1. This is 99.9 % city driving. Longest trip I've taken was 40 miles and did get 30 MPG on that trip.
Around town fuel economy is nothing special.
