I just got my 2016 Z51. Do any of you have a problem closing the hood? Unlike the C6, if you just drop it from from 12" or so it just locks on one side. I have to stand in front of the car and slam it like hell to get it to close. Dealer is no help. I know is weights about 14 lbs but one side does close. Any suggestions?
I close it with my hand in the middle of the hood, same as I did with my C5. I have to do it with some umph, but not slamming it.
Kevin,
Thanks.Do you ever sleep?
I think my driver side latch has a problem. Why would one side close and not the other.
Selling the stock wheels, many tires kickers but no $ yet.
How the Vette? Mine is unbelievable, so much smother than the C6.

Yeah i have the same thing going on when closing the hood and like kevincol i just grap hood in center at the top and give it a firm closing motion ...i have found that it works every time.

On my C6 had to close from the driver's side and both sides latched. If closed from the passenger side most of the time only that side latched. With the C7 80% of the time both sides latch whichever side I close from. About 20% of the time if closed from the passenger side only that side latches. No big deal, there are some adjustments but now my hood fits perfectly so see no need to mess with it. Put a little lub on the latch and let the paint wear off.

Mine will sometimes not secure on both sides. Mostly I just, standing on the driver's side, push it from about a foot high, hand in the middle on the edge of the hood. It seemed to not secure early in the ownership. But after a year of having it, it seems to latch easily. Had the same issue with my C5. Just a matter of learning the technique to getting it right.
I have no idea if the hoods on C7s have the adjustable hood alignment bumpers (little black plastic stop like a mushroom). If so, simply give a it a turn or two to slightly lower the stop position. Should make the hood latch a bit more easily.
I don't drop or slam my hood. I let it down to where the hood is resting on the latches. I then push gently over the latch on each side. Takes all of about 30 seconds.

Does that count the time you spend wiping off the fingerprints from pushing down to get it latched?
I support the hood under the edge most of the time it'll latch just fine, 1 second.

I don't sleep much... I work a lot -- nature of being in software. This forum is an unwinding experience for me.
It does sound like you might have an issue that we don't have. All I know is when I was doing the factory tour it took to guys to get the alignment of the hood right. I've just noticed when in my garage that one side of the hood has more of a gap than the other. I never noticed it until I was at the angle that I get with the stairs in my garage. You can see it below on the left side. I haven't taken a micrometer out to see how big the difference is yet to warrant if I want to mess with it or not.
I don't know if alignment is something related to your issue or not.
I wound up being very fortunate on my wheels as I got screwed with ShopChevyParts.COM. I miraculously found a forum member that was selling his and lived outside of Nashville and I had a slew of forum members that were interested in by the stock '16's that were on my car. It was actually unbelievable that it worked out that way. I still love looking at those wheels.
Comparing this C7 to my 2004 C5 Z06 is night and day. I loved the Z, but this is a whole never level of refinement. It's an incredible vehicle.
I'm in awe: A 13-post thread on hood closing technique.
The C7 has a 14 lb. carbon fiiber hood. Us C5 and C6 former owners were used to dropping a 60 lb. hood from 12 inches. A learning process not a major problem. Now 15.
I cannot just drop mine and have it latch on both sides. Passenger side latches, driver side does not... I tried adjusting the latch height, but then the edge of the hood and fender does no line up..
I stand on the side that does not latch, and push on the edge along the side of the scoop at the rear of the hood, so that it goes down firmly without flexing and it always latches...

That's the solution. Screwed the black stops on the bad side a turn or two clockwise. Problem GONE!
