Will be picking up my new 2016 c7 in matter of days ..
Went to a dealer today looked over the paint on a yet to be sold 2016
shark grey ... the doors and fenders are awful ! orange peel , waves etc.
Also around the side vent area looked almost like drips...what a shame !
I cannot recall ever seeing a new car with such a poor paint job ..
Must say to be fair..the hood looked good as did the rear end..
I am very disappointed in mine. My second NRB, third C7 overall and by far the worst. I let my dealer know that I wasn't happy and he passed the info to the regional rep but..... That's as far as it goes I'm sure.
I was at a local car show today and there was a black 195(5-6-7?) Chevy BelAir survivor car on display. 24K miles, no repaint. The lack of orange peel was amazing. The reflections were near mirror sharp. I'm sure the VOCs emitted from the spray booth killed a lot of workers but what a nice finish. Don't know why the C7 has to have a so-so finish. My wife's 14 year old Buick has a much nicer finish quality and that was water based so I not sure I buy the blame for OP on the lack of toxins.

what did the dealer say ...? did you get a refund ? what if you refuse the car ?
Some have good paint and some don't. Pretty inconsistent. Which in a way is even more maddening, as the good ones clearly indicate they "can" put a decent paint job on at BG.

My NRB is the same , worst factory paint of any of the 30+ cars I have owned . what a shame ..

They just can't do it all the time, apparently.
Yup, and the only thing i can think of that varies daily is the humidity. Does anyone know exactly what the upcoming capital expenditure improvment in BG is? Is it to hermetically seal the place? To truly "air-condition" the shop? If it was in the robots/paint formula/procedure, they would all be good, or they'd all be bad, right?
Humidity and temperatures in the paint booth are likely factors in the varying quality of paint finishes. Would be interesting to review this data if it were available.
I've read a lot of posts about the paint and it is a shame you have to roll the dice hoping for a good paint job. I know GM can fix this and they obviously are aware of the problems. A much older post mentioned that better spray equipment would help a lot. Unfortunately I don't think there will be a fix until the new paint facility is operational.

If I was paying that much and the paint looked terrible, I too would be pretty pizzed. Would even consider backing out of the deal. No real reason why they can't get the paint right.
yeah, when i picked up my SG '15, i thought it looked great. Then after bringing it home and looking at it after a few days, i realized how much peel there is. The color and car look awesome, but knowing its there, i see it every time i look and it annoys the **** out of me...
After a year I'm at peace with it. Like Glen E., I wet sanded and polished the worse areas. My original paint '81 put's the '14 to shame so I keep them separated.
Does mine have OP? Yes. Do I look at it on an regular basis? Never.
I have to say it's a non-issue to me. But I do have AW which my detailer told me minimizes and hides it more than most colors.
The new paint booth being built in BG will likely put this to bed once and for all.
It is a non-issue to me until I see great paint jobs posted on this forum. Then I am sad.... I suppose wet sand and polish on the sides is in my future.
what did the dealer say ...? did you get a refund ? what if you refuse the car ?
I have a car on order which I brought from an out of state dealer, with a courtesy ship to my state. I need to do some research to find out what happens if I refuse to take delivery because the car has defective (crappy) paint. Afterall, I haven't paid for it yet. No financing involved, I'm paying cash.
At the very least, I will demand to met with a GM rep on site to understand what their plan of action will be to fix the problem before I turn over the money.
Maybe if more C7 owners would do the same Bowling Green would actually do something about this disgraceful problem.

Hard to understand the inconsistent paint jobs give robots paint them.
Maybe they're becoming human so they now have hang over Mondays, bad attitude Wednesdays, can't wait to get the F out of here Fridays.
