If you are looking for a daily driver and weekend fun car, the basic Stingray is a really fantastic choice and one that doesn't break the bank. The Z51 upgrade is inexpensive, so it may not be a big deal one way or another to you, but it may improve resale for guys who want to track or mod the car. Spend your Stingray money on the features that are important to the way you want to use the car. For non-track guys, the Z06 is basically a toy we can afford to play with. The Z06, as a daily driver, is serious overkill. Buy it if you can afford it but don't make family sacrifices for a car you will rarely (if ever) drive as it was meant to be driven. That extra $25-30K or so might be better spent elsewhere. Just my 2c.
You told it right.I really wanted the Z06 but didn't want to pay the 30K more.So I'm going to put in 10K for Headers and Super Charger.

WOW! Thank you all so much for some GREAT advice. I really have some things to think about before I make a decision.

Question about the Mag Ride. Does it have the same affect with either the Z51 and the Non-Z51? Does it make the car smoother to ride on in daily driving conditions?

Thanks,

Dale

I believe it does. I think the Z51 has electronic limited slip, which non Z51 does not. I have a non Z51 and can feel a difference in the ride. I would get it again.

That being said, I have not driven a Z51.

If there were the same discounts on the Z06 as there were on the C7's I would have moved to a Z06. However, the C7 Z51 is a boatload of fun!

Z51 has the following:

(J55) performance brakes,
(J6A) Black-painted calipers, slotted brake rotors,
(Z52) dry sump oil system,
(FE3) Z51 performance suspension, specific shocks, springs and stabilizer bars,
(NPP) performance exhaust,
(XFJ) P245/35ZR19 front and P285/30ZR20 rear tires,
(Q7S) Silverpainted aluminum, 19" front and 20" rear wheels, performance gear ratios,
(G96) Electronic Limited Slip Differential (eLSD),
(KNR) rear differential cooler, transmission cooling and an Aero Package

I have the 2016 Z51 coupe and am super happy with the extra $ for that option. I also got FE4 (Magnetic Selective Ride Control), swapped calipers to J6E (Yellow painted calipers) and swapped the wheels to 5Z2 (LPO, Z51-style Satin Black with Yellow stripe aluminum 19"
(48.3 cm) front and 20" (50.8 cm) rear wheels)

I did not even bother with the Z51 since I was not going to track the car. I did get the NPP exhaust and MSRC. Both of these were must haves on my list. The difference between 2LT and 3LT was not enough in my opinion to justify the additional cost.

As a daily driver, do not get the Z06. You will get much better gas mileage with the LT1 motor and the daily driving experience will be about the same. Other options on the Stingray are purely preference. Get what you want.
For 2014 I knew you had to get the Z51 to get the magnetic ride but for 2016 magnetic ride is a standalone option for the base Stingray without the Z51 option? ... ETA never mind this is just new news to me.

Virtually everything on my C6 Z06 cost more to maintain than my C6 Vert.
Couple of quarts of oil more shouldn't be a deal breaker.
Tires wear the same and oil changes are the same. Brake pads are more though. Even insurance was little difference.

Buy a 1lz-2lz z06 before the car your listing. I say 2 lz because you can get a discount Kerbeck is giving supplier discount on 2 lz Z06's.

The z06 will drop a lot slower there less cars and more demand.

No one said a deal breaker, just something to take into account.

I was drawing from my experience maintaining my C6 base, and my Z06, and with 35,000 miles on my C7 Z51 which I have found to be similar cost-wise to the Z06; every point I made was true, oil changes were much more expensive and often, my tires on the base lasted much longer. I saw no difference in insurance costs between them, however.

I've had all three as DDs, so I'm the last one to say you should not get the "higher performance" end, just consider all aspects.

Would you mind sharing the reasoning behind your comment?

I am looking at a configuration very close to that of the OP but would like a Z06 if I could swing it when I come into the market in late spring.

I went your route. I would stop what I'm doing sell the Stingray stock and upgrade cars no question. Instead on putting money in mods on the Stingray. if the stock stingray wasn't fast enough.
